Aspire Sheffield - Computer Recycling For The Disadvantaged

Recommended Posts

https://www.aspire-sheffield.co.uk/computer-recycling-donations-wanted

Aspire take Computer/Laptop donations (amongst other IT related things)

They can offer low cost computer equipment to schools, low income families, charities and start up companies
Re-using surplus equipment is environmentally friendly
Volunteers and placements gain valuable work experience and qualifications.

Could be handy for anyone with Children at home from school, with no computer equipment etc.

Yeah just over 2 years ago I volunteered for them, only thing is I only lasted a week! I wouldn't mind but the job was supposed to be selling PC parts on eBay, and then on the second day they turned round and said they were cutting that bit due to lack of demand for the eBay services!

Thing is though the only other aspect of the job was building PCs, and due to disability I'm not good with my hands so doing stuff with tools was a no no, and they were told all this by Office Laura from Choice Support, who got me the job in the first place!

They will collect equipment from business addresses, but not from residential addresses.

The good news is, according to their website, the general public can still drop off equipment on Thursdays and Fridays:

Recycling for the General Public

MAY UPDATE:

We’re happy to receive in-person donations from the public 09:00 to 17:00 Thursday & Friday only (Except any days that fall on a Bank Holiday)

Although we still have reduced staffing, advanced warning of your visit is no longer required.  Please avoid lunchtimes if possible (12-1).

Yes!  We’re not just for the business community.

Our recycling centre is fully open to the general public so if you’re moving house, space making or just want to have a good old clear out, then come and recycle your old items with us.

We can accept most types of electrical, electronic or IT related products including computers, laptops, monitors, cables, wires, bits and parts in ANY condition.  We can also accept larger items such as washing machines, cookers, dishwashers, microwaves and audio equipment.

Unfortunately there are some items we cannot accept due to their specialist decommissioning requirements and these are:

    • Fridges (and their components)
    • Freezers (and their components)
    • CRT Monitors or TVs
    • Empty Toner Cartridges
    • Fluorescent Tubes
    • Nickel–cadmium batteries
    • Nickel–metal hydride batteries
    • Gas or Pressurised Bottles

Laser printer or inkjet?

Their website above states they won't take toner cartridges, which I assume to mean laser printer, but you can always contact them to confirm.

Depends what it is, and how old... too specialized they might not... too old they might not...

What do you have? I'm interested in old(er) PC equipment personally...
