Quality Of Our Water

Morning all, we live in Chapeltown S35 the quality of our water is good,

not bad for Council Pop but can anyone enlighten me which part of  Yorkshire 

our water come's from we know it's Trent Water, or use to be, now Yorkshire Water

and, important, is our water hard or soft.      Thanks

 I started getting cloudy water that left the limestone residue in the pan. I phoned and spoke to the relevant department at YW.

 

It was explained to me that at times "they pump water front other areas, so at certain times of the year it can change from soft water to hard".

Kelda owns our water.

Since 1963 our main source of water is the 36-mile underground pipeline linking the river Derwent at Elvington, seven miles east of York, with the  reservoir at Hoober from there an increasingly complex grid covers South Yorkshire.

Next biggest source of our water are the Don catchment reservoirs.

Some supply is possible from underground supplies.

It is possible to get water from Howden and Derwent dams (not Ladybower) but it is far more profitable to sell this water to the east Midlands cities. This is now Severn Trent territory. No water comes from  the Trent itself. 

 

Water supply management requires safer, 'healthier', better quality and more consistent supply and a lot of work has gone into new treatment and storage sites eg Rivelin.  

Hence the 'mix'.

 

Some of our reservoirs are for controlling river levels.
