Xbox 360 updates

Hi i was wondering if anyone could tell me if you dont update your xbox would it stop reading disc if is it just a case of updating to get it running again .All this has happend since plugging in a kinect , could this have caused the problem??

If you have never use Kinect, then there is an update you will need to install - it shouldn't however prevent you playing none-kinect games (Unless the game it's self specifically requires an updated version compared to your current, which didn't happen often)

Thanks for replying  . It was the disc that wasn't in tray properly which in turn meant it couldn't read discs . I had to strip console and realign  lazer slide. Thanks
