You could go on the Woodhead.

 

Or go on the A6 to Buxton, then Stockport, then take the A555 to the Manchester motorways.

There is no need to go through Buxton or Stockport or Manchester M60

From Sheffield your starting point is crucial in deciding your route.

Our route from Broomhill  to  Preston on Friday am will be:

A57 to Ladybower-Bamford-Castleton-Wynnats Pass-Rushop Edge-A6-A555(passes Manchester Airport)-M56W and M6N.

We know that the A6 through Disley will be very busy.

 

The Woodhead was extremely busy this lunchtime.

The local expert who produced "Glossop online" died.

 

The Snake will be closed until the planned work is finished-which might be earlier than planned.

 

I was wrong about opening overnight and the weekend as the partial was opening is impractical to manage.

But a roundabout route for Sheffield-Blackpool! I'd recommend M1, M62, M60, M61, M6, M55.

From Broomhill the AA distances to Blackpool via M1/M62 - at 114 miles are nearly 12-18 miles further than via the A57 and A6 Disley  and then routes using the A555 -so not 'roundabout'.

Most people who travel to Lancashire have a preferred route which is dependent on many factors which influence their choice

Since the A555 was completed the southern route offers a shorter competitive route to my destination near Preston, it is recorded as being slower but the M62 has many pinch points and rarely offers a pleasant through journey.

The M6 Jn24-25 work is nearly complete.

Did you observe any of the works in progress ?

If so, do you reckon it is possible to cycle through the road works with care  i.e. get off and carry the bike where needed.

The Snake Road is a lovely cycling route, but a very dangerous one for cyclists

This road closure is an opportunity to ride the route in safety

There’s a sign at the viaduct saying that the road is closed to cyclists too.
