Blades Signing Prospects

CW is considering several players for many positions but how many players on the teamsheet as subs ever get game time, doesn't make sense.

We need to score a lot more goals to finish ninth or above next season and to me fresh legs in that department is the answer to this towards the end of the games

Lets see what difference the friendlies produce

Early days yet in the transfer window,  summer breaks etc, cubs have till October 5th to sort transfers out. Blades need more goal threat upfront,  hopefully Watkins might still be on the horizon, rumours of Robinson going to WBA in exchange for Burke, I'd rather have the cash tbh, & maybe L Freeman moving on, but as I say early days yet.

I know that this has been a Covid-hit season and so not really representative, but I think it is clear that we do need cover in a few areas.  We had relatively few injuries and suspensions, yet where would we have been without the contributions of Jack Robinson and Ben Osborn?  On a number of occasions, CW did not even have the resources to fill the sub's bench.  It is with this in mind, and the very real  possibility of losing players to other clubs (who often pay bigger wages) that we are actively looking at recruiting fresh faces.

Whereas the cry year after year is for more and more expensive central strikers to get goals, each time we do that it does not stop the same call the following year.  We paid good money recently for Mousset and McBernie, yet I keep hearing calls for us to buy another one or two at big money.  I assume we'll be trying to get Zivkovic back on loan for another season (I've heard good reports of him in training) to join Sharp and McGoldrick, so we'd already have 5 strikers for 2 starting places (assuming Leon Clarke and Robinson move on), or more if they don't.

I think that now the goalkeeper position has been successfully resolved, that the majority of movement will be in defence and midfield.  Jags has resigned to cover emergencies at the back and I expect him to move into coaching with us as well.  Personally, I can't see how Rodwell fits in, but in CJ we trust.  That leaves us hoping that the regulars stay, and fresh legs are brought in to bolster both of these areas.

We also need to be ready for when big bids come in for our regular starters, with identified replacements either already purchased, or with their agents already on speed-dial.  In the company we are keeping, I think we have to be resolved to losing one or more of our favourites when the players get back from their holidays and quarantines.

A mate mentioned to me that the Blades are showing interest in WBA right wing, Oliver Burke?

Let's see if that comes to anything?

Liverpool striker, Rhian Brewster possibly heading to the Lane in a loan move?

Some media outlets on the Internet are also suggesting that the Blades are lining up a £15 million move to actually buy him!?

Brewster was mentioned a while ago as a loan target, but then a few other PL teams showed interest, and I thought ours had cooled.  We were also meant to be the front-runners for the Brentford lad, Ollie Watkins, but then Villa and others were quoted to be waving more money around.

Either way, we are in a far better position to attract players than at the start of last season, after a tremendous 2019/20.  A great performance and position last season, Henderson thrived on loan with us, and more money to spend thanks to our finishing position.

Seems like some clever shopping seems to be going on behind the scenes again.

It seems that Oliver Burke is very much a goer... He fits the mould fantastically! He is energetic, likes to run at defenders. He is very unselfish and will happily get himself into attacking positions, only to tee somebody else up. He also likes to have a dink on goal from distance, something that we would all like to see more of.  Ticks plenty of boxes.

Jayden Bogle and Max Lowe... What is not to like about this rumoured duo? We want an injection of youth into the team and these two are ideal candidates when it comes to battling it out with Baldock and Stevens. Bogle had the majority of the Premier League scouting him last year, he came through the ranks with Lampard and literally set minds racing. A two footed player with bags of pace and confidence? Has the mould of a wing back! Ideal player for the system that we play! Loves to get up, beat his man and put a ball in the box.....assist after assist!!!... Yes please.... And lowe… Likewise! Bags of confidence and pace! Somewhat of a Walker and Naughton feel about these two, however scarily, Bogle looks way more composed in possession and his ball control his superior in my opinion.

A couple more in the pipelines as well..... Wilder wants 2 strikers and is willing to enter the European loan market in order to deliver quality.

Get em in Mr Wilder, keep up the fantastic work!... No pointless quantity here! Simple identify areas of improvement and get the right players into the club! We need those strikers please and another CB.

Sky reporting Max Lowe passed medical at SUFC. Also signing Jayden Bogle. Both Derby players. Reported at £ 15 million the pair, although not necessarily accurate. Aged 20, and 23. Cover for Baldock and Stevens ( I think ?).

Hope we sign a striker. Either that or Mousset and McBurnie find their scoring boots.

I wouldn't insult these two by calling them back up Ridgewalk. Bogle in particular is very exciting and has the potential to force himself into the reckoning. George and Enda will have to look over their shoulders from today onwards, as these two players are pacey, confident, attacking minded and are going to relish playing in the top flight. They have the same opportunity that those before them had and at that sort of age, they are going to do everything they can to get some stage time.

What excites me about these two players in particular is that it allows us to make attacking changes from defensive positions. Top flight defenders are difficult to break down and to get behind, but these two players thrive on hitting the by line and delivering crosses. They are going to bring pace in abundance.

Another update.  We have signed Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea on a one-year loan.  Very exciting Wales international - either a holding midfielder or centre-back.  Couldn't break into Chelsea team, so went on loan last year to R B Leipsig.  Had an injury-hit year, but I saw him playing centre-back in the Europa Cup, and was Man of the Match in that game.  Not the tallest, but boy did he cover well!  In addition, he was clearly the best passer of a ball in that match, short and long.

Welcome to BDTBL Ethan!

Interesting twist in recruitment today then? As we have now learnt that Robinson is going to be sold to West Brom, whilst Burke is only coming the other way on an initial loan.

After listening to a couple of Wilder's interviews and the twists of local journalists that are connected to the club, it might just make a bit of sense this.

So why is Burke only coming in on loan?....It actually makes sound business sense really, a try before you buy sort of deal.

West brom splashed out big bucks for burke and they are looking to recoup as much of £15m as possible in his sale. But, he's been a little bit unsettled at The Baggies and truth be said, it doesn't seem to worked for either party. The lad has undisputed talent and was named as one of the finest young prospects in British football, only a few years ago. Soooooo..... Up step Chris Wilder and Alan Knill, with another trademark sort of signing. We have a player who has the potential to be absolute quality, but he needs a bit of work to help him reignite his spark and find his mojo. Ring a bell? Draw any former comparisons?......

With this move suiting both parties and what with West Brom transfer listing the player  I would like to think that some sort of loan to buy agreement has been discussed in principal.

But what does this mean for united now?.....Quite simple, no more British loans! That quota would now be full.

We are only allowed two british loan players aren't we and with Ampadu, that would be us maxed out. But this would still work out with what wilder has been going on about.

Last week Wilder spoke of an influx of players and he was quite up front in stating his desire to sign 5 players. He went on to elaborate is saying that he expected a few permanent signings and a couple of loans. So far, we have had the permanent arrivals of the two derby lads, along with Ampadu and now potentially Burke. If Wilder is still following his initial blueprints, maybe this was his plan after all? It would make perfect sense.....

The money from the Robinson deal is rumoured to be around a good few million, this with a decent player coming to us on loan. Solid business sense.....

So do we now expect this money to go directly towards wilders final signing?.......

He did state that he wanted a couple of forwards to come into the club. The Prince and Wilder have both been pretty open about the transfer policy this year, what with the loss of revenue last season. The rumoured marquee signings such as Brewster or Dennis, are bound to come at a premium. Sooooo, will the sale of robinson, aid in facilitating the missing link in his transfer masterplan?

I suppose we will have to wait and see but everything at the moment is beginning to make a good bit of sense. All in all it appears on first hand to be very savvy and a very Chris Wilder way of doing business and getting his man.

Interesting week ahead....
