Recommended Posts

On the first section of Club Garden Walk 2nd. building down from Cross Walk it was a blacksmith's as a child i

spent many  happy moments watching George shoe the horses he was only a small chap the cart horses dwarfed him when he placed the shoe on the horse's hoof the aroma was magic, on the 2nd. section of Club Garden Walk our milk man Tom Stokes stabled his horse the stable building is still there. Ha Happy Days. The archway leading to 2court the back of the arch is bricked up it is now  some sort of jeweller the courtyard is still there minus the houses.

This is certainly how it looks on this 1953 map - there are two properties (presumably Nos. 90 and 92/94) between the Pheasant (shown as a public house 'PH' on the map) and Club Garden Walk.

Thank you Hilsbrough.

obviously the corner shop Coombes the smaller unit and the draper occuping two units.

and just in view the houses of 'Court 2' including what must be the outside toilets.

Strange to see Leverton Street where the tower block is now built (1964/65)

I can remember the maisionett's being built better than I can the tower blocks for some reason.

This whole exchange is what Sheffield forum should be about.

Keep up the good work everybody.

Where's the large garage that was there on the corner of London Rd and Hill street? (just across from the blue arrow)

Looks like another building that had a shortish life span.

I can remember the original garage / workshop being pulled down late 60's early 70's and what was a petrol station built on the site.

Now a car sales.

I've had a look on goggle images and found nothing although I found a rather nice picture of TCHarrisons with new Mk 2 Consuls out side.

Do you think if I nip down now I can get one at the mark up price?

The site was evidently empty in 1953 when the map was published, but the directories I have from 1959 show the garage there, originally (1959) as "London Road Filling Station", then (1963) "F. Wilson (Garages) Ltd., motor agents & dealers", then (1965) "Brocklehurst's of London Road Sheffield, motor agents & dealers", and then (1971)  "London Road Garage". The 1973 directory shows the site as empty, but in the 1974 edition "Alan Pond Regional Ltd. petrol station" is there.

Not without a time machine, but there's a nice example on eBay, priced at a modest 5½ grand...

FIVE AND A HALF GRAND !!!!!!  (and it needs work) !!!!!!

Hold on while I sit down, the Scottishness is coming out of me and I've broke out into a sweat.

We were buying Mk11 Consuls, Zephyrs and Zodiac's for £50.

My first Mk111 Zephyr 6 (Z cars) £40 and drove it home.

Happy Daze.

Happy Daze indeed.

I thought that would make your hackles rise, Rockers rule!  😀 I think if I wanted a vintage car I would buy a nicely-restored Jowett Javelin - my uncle had a 1951 Javelin and it was the first car I ever rode in, aged about five!

You might have just missed out Hilsbro there was one (for restoration) on fleece bay a few weeks ago and local if I remember right.

Back on subject and just down from the piece of spare land we've been talking about.

Bill (owner of the Disc Jocky) bought a 'Bright Yellow' Mk1 Escort which rather stood out because everything was still in black and white back then . lol.

Keep safe.

That reminds me of the Chuck Ranch on Holme Lane, mentioned earlier in the thread. The owner (Mohammed Tanwir) had a bright yellow E-Type coupé - a lovely motor.
