Silent Phone Calls.

Recommended Posts

Twice this week my landline phone has rang and nobody spoke on the other line. The first time I could hear someone rattling papers and moving things around on a desk, but they never spoke. Today the phone rang and someone was listening but never spoke so I put the phone down. After dialling 1471 for the persons number the first caller withheld their number and today’s caller was a Sheffield number. I was in two minds whether to ring back but decided not to. I have a call blocker number but haven’t blocked the call. It’s no good ringing BT as they never give anyone’s name out. I wonder why this is happening ? Seems rather eerie to me. Would you ring back or not ?

Cold callers. They have a system that auto dials numbers, but sometimes there’s not a person ready to actually take the call.
It’s an annoyingly common thing, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Dont ring them back.

Thanks nikki. You’ve put my mind at rest. Also glad you told me not to ring back.

Did you put the number in any websites such as https://www.shouldianswer.co.uk/ or https://whocallsme.com/

Whenever I get a number that has rung me that I missed, I use a look up site to see if I can see who called.

Didn’t know of this link. Thanks I will try it. However I did not miss these calls, it’s just that they didn’t answer when I picked the phone up.

Don't let them get to you. Just more crap people have to put up with on phones. I don't use my landline (no phone plugged in) but my mum who's in her 80's used to get these calls and really fret over them. I just advised her on a 5 second type rule, if you say hello and no response in 5 seconds, just hang up and get on with your day...don't give it another thought.

Thanks Zac, I shall take your advice.

Yes they  are a bit but you get a sixth sense with the ambient noise on the line and I just hang up,what pee’s me off is if you are upstairs when it rings it’s second nature to get down the stairs as quick as poss to answer it.

Just had another silent phone call with no answer. They put the phone down at the other end. What I have noticed is that they are all at the same time every day.
