They shouldn't have had a foreign composer and a foreign main singer this year. It would have been better to cancel the show this year. The best program over the weekend was the Piers Morgan interview with Sir Captain Tom which did make me proud to be British. I assume you mean Conductor rather than composer.  Why though?  Also, the correct form is Captain Sir.  Military rank has precedence.  For such a stickler to tradition and formality you don’t know much about it. I did, didn't sing along tho... to save the cats sanity.  The re-imagined Jerusalem was pretty spectacular, as was the quality of the singing.  Great stuff. Yes I agree with you about the interviewer, but I thought he showed a lot of respect for Mr Moore.  God knows how Morgan would have behaved if he had Boris in the interview chair.   Better get back on topic the thread is about the Proms. Edited September 14, 2020 by hauxwell
 Share this content via...

The number of musicians etc taking part was just a fraction of what normally happens because of Covid 19 and it would have been a good gesture if it was on the best of British musicians taking part this year. In normal years I don't have a problem with the best foreign musicians etc taking part in front of a live audience. The conductor is from Finland.  As for the rest, I think it would have been no kind of gesture at all.
 Share this content via...
joojoo   13 #77 Posted September 14, 2020 I sang my heart out, and shed a little  tear, thinking about my Dad who loved his country,  as I do too.
 Share this content via...

It would have been a good gesture to have had a British conductor this year and a British soprano in my opinion. Yeah, just bin the contract that had already been signed. That’s very much on trend at the moment.
 Share this content via...
