Older Mac Needs Virus Protection

Recommended Posts

I have an IMac that has 10.15 Catalina OS which needs virus protection.

Sophos and Avast won't do it.

Is there an update for the OS?

Is the any any alternative software out there?

Apologies to all for  wasting your time. What I should have written is:

I have an IMac that has 10.10.5 late 2013 Yosemite  OS which needs virus protection.

Sophos and Avast won't do it.

Is there an update for the OS?

Is the any any alternative software out there?

It won't upgrade other software either e.g. for a  wacom drawing board.

As its purpose was to run the whole of the Adobe graphic suite I wonder when those will stop?

The OS won't upgrade, something to do with a chip?

An alternative solution might be to install Linux then Adobe using Wine. Linux natively supports most Wacom Tablets. Linux has ClamAV antivirus which is free to download and install.

https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/install-adobe-photoshop-linux/#:~:text=You can also run Adobe Photoshop CS4%2C CS6%2C,switching from Windows to Linux is software compatibility.

That's not going to help if it's a Mac version of Adobe's software.

I can recommend you some antivirus software, but given the age of the Mac, I don't whether the antivirus software is still supported with updated virus definitions.

What Mac model do you have?  In Finder, go to the Apple menu -> About this Mac and give us the details or a screenshot (hide the serial number first).

I'd look into whether you can upgrade Mac OS first.

C&P

Check compatibility

If you’re using one of these computers with OS X Mavericks or later,* you can install macOS Catalina. Your Mac also needs at least 4GB of memory and 12.5GB of available storage space, or up to 18.5GB of storage space when upgrading from OS X Yosemite or earlier.

MacBook introduced in 2015 or later
MacBook Air introduced in 2012 or later
MacBook Pro introduced in 2012 or later
Mac mini introduced in 2012 or later
iMac introduced in 2012 or later
iMac Pro (all models)
Mac Pro introduced in 2013 or later

* To upgrade from Lion or Mountain Lion, first upgrade to El Capitan, then upgrade to Catalina. To find your macOS version, Mac model, memory and storage space, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu . If your Mac isn’t compatible with macOS Catalina, the installer will let you know. View the complete list of compatible computers.

Hope this is relevant
