Congratulations to all the regional mayors elected to their roles.

11 of 13 voted in are Labour.

Unsurprising then that Priti Patel has announced that the Government want to change the voting system for mayors to a first past the post system, which according to Prof. Tony Travers of the LSE will make it easier for Tory candidates to win these roles. Still I suppose whilst working on this will keep her from bullying more of her civil servants.

Government to change English voting system after Labour mayoral victories | Mayoral elections | The Guardian

Well done to the mayors. Boo to Gerry Mandering.

They should axe all the elected  Mayors with the exception of the London Mayor.  Also the elected Police Commissioners should be axed. We need less politicians and not more.

Totally agree,  we have two - a city mayor and a city region mayor. The latter does very little for the wider region and just spends his time in the same city as the other mayor.

I think David Blunkett has it pretty much spot on here.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-9559939/Voters-want-hear-plan-future-not-nostalgia-past-writes-DAVID-BLUNKETT.html

I’ve always had a great deal of respect for David, ever since he presented me with my A level prizes at my local comp.

I need the Labour Party to present me with a manifesto of hope, areal plan for the future, rather than the mud slinging and politically correct pandering to minorities they currently espouse.

Comedy gold!

A Labour supporter turning to & quoting from the Daily Mail on a piece written by 'Socialist firebrand' Lord Blunkett.

The piece was probably draft while sat in his home on the Wentworth Estate (not the council estate).

Oh the irony.  Tailor required as my sides have just split

I agree... You missed out the "ka-ching" of his bank account register though...:)

He states "To win, you have to convince the voter that you have a programme for the future, not a nostalgia for the past and a political outlook that is out of date" and then goes on to say Hilary Benn and Yvette Cooper should be in the cabinet....

I don't think there's any quick fix for Labour.   A cabinet reshuffle certainly won't sort it.  The comments on this article show there's just too many differing opinions where things are wrong:

You've got everyone's gripes there - not left enough, still too left, too stuck in the past, Corbyn, not enough Corbyn and so on and so on. This comment has it right: "Labour is paralysed, triangulating between the elements of its broad church."

Maybe that church should start another branch and call itself the ANP,  Anti Neoliberal Party as there seems to be many of those believers about.

Not entirely true as this link shows:       https://www.thelocal.se/tag/crime/

Crime rate in Sweden is 1.08 lower than the UKs 1.20 and in Norway its 0.48,but Finland is higher.

Do you mean Wentworth Woodhouse? Doesn't rees-mogg's wife have a family connection to that place - and perhaps that's why the government are forking out for a new roof?
