Well, interesting results.

Starmer claiming an amazing Labour victory, but his eyesight seems only limited to London.

Labour has gained Mayfair … and lost Hull. Sort of sums it up really.

It looks like the Greens & Lib Dems have had the best results.

Yep.  It's definitely been their night more than Starmers.  There is clearly still a lot of work to be done before the the general election to recover those key 'red wall' seats.  Seems to have been a lot of protest vote against both main parties.

Noticed when I first started watching the results coming in last night, the BBC reported that Sheffield was one of the labours key targets. Not much talk from Mr Starmer about that now.   If he becomes too london-centric it will certainly not play well.

One of the political commentators I was reading summed it up pretty well.....  the Tories got a kicking but nowhere near the levels they had feared. Labour achieved some victories but nowhere near the levels they had hoped for....

In my opinion neither performed spectacular and wouldn't surprise me at all if, when it comes General Election time, even with all the supposedly vile and evil and disgraceful and shameful things the Conservatives have done, we just end up with another close call or hung Parliament.

If Labour still can't smash through an absolute landslide victory when the Tories seem to be handing it till them on a plate due to their  conduct, there is no hope for them.

It tells you a tale when Sheffield has to be one of Labours key targets

When you look at how dismal they've been generally with the in fighting, anti semetism etc.

And the Tories getting a massive majority and looking unbeatable.

I think labour think they've done better than they thought?

Although the greens and lib dems seem to be doing better than both....despite generally being invisible

Starmer was supposed to be the respectable, great hope of the Labour party, after Jeremy Corbyn, but it's not turned out that way has it?

He should have worked with Jeremy Corbyn to unite the party instead of expelling him and all the other socialists in a socialist party, and splitting it right down the middle. Added to that is his lack of charisma and drive, and failure to put forward a coherant plan.

He needs to step down now so there's a chance for a new leader to settle in before the next election.

Anna, you're spot on.

I try to like Starmer, but its his hypocrisy that sticks in my craw, and I think everyone else's.

He's gone on and on about Partygate, yet at the same time he's not so clean.    Durham police reinvestigating?  Interesting how they decided to sit on the info for 24 hours though.

They go on about the Rwanda deportation plan being an inhumane Tory act, yet fail to mention that Europe has been doing deals with them for years.

He's got no policies, all he harps on about is "Windfall Tax".

The Tories lockdowns were wrong, yet he supported them and wanted them longer.

All Labour MPs post on Twitter is just mudslinging at the Conservatives.

And to add insult to injury he's failed to speak about the lack of massive gains outside London.  His London-centric behaviour today has certainly opened my eyes to where his priorities lie - and I support the man!

The funniest thing about all this is that all week all the media have been going on about this being the most important council election of all time, how its an opinion poll for how the country would vote in a national election.  And today in the Guardian........

Quote

Of course, it can be a mistake to read too much into local elections. Worse than a mistake, it’s an insult to regard them as a glorified opinion poll for the Westminster parliament

Jeremy Corbyn was a failure, he wasn't good enough to win an election and the whole anti-Semitism thing didn't help. Not saying Kier Starmer is great but I'm not sure who would be a better leader out of the current bunch.

According to the statistician on the BBC, both Corbyn and Starmer got 35% of the vote in council elections. So level pegging.

Corbyn was good for the working class like me , the press and the bbc made sure he was turned into the black night , can anyone tell me what this gang have done for ordinary working class people , they just get richer and richer out off us, but it’s like the song . The king is in his all together , let’s see if anyone can explain in plain old fashioned  English , not bits none sense talk. Is there still any old guys out there that can still talk sense not one sentence rubbish .
