Tony 10 #1958 Posted November 12, 2021 Mel, I'm not even going to read your link. The bottom line is that the "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free" is an anti-Semitic chant that quite simply calls for the total annihilation of the world's only Jewish state, re-established to provide safety from the annihilation of Jews from the planet. Mull that over please. You may or may not accept it, but that is the fact of the matter. You yourself are on the cusp of committing the same sin as the anti-Semites doing the chanting and their cheerleaders in the alternative communist press. You're a good bloke so rather than us falling out perhaps you could do me the favour of taking a few days to have a good think about it before leaping in now to try to prove me wrong. And as Starmer continues to purge the Labour party of Socialists, she is one of the few remaining in what is supposed to be a Socialist party to stand up for socialist causes. That's what I mean by balance. Fortunately Starmer doesn't have the power to get rid of the deputy leader or I'm sure he would. The opposition party is supposed to oppose the government and has the power to vote against government plans if they disagree with them. If enough vote thus, they may be able to prevent a bill going through. So they do have some power. PS. Tony, I don't know how anyone who supports Bumbling Boris has the cheek to refer to 'Corbyn's Clown Show.' I suggest you sort out your own leadership problems before you criticise others.... Labour at present have as much power as the Lib Dem or the monster raving loony party.
 Share this content via...

the_bloke 17 #1964 Posted November 12, 2021 Clive Betts? What a surprise. IMO that anyone breaking the rules should face the consequence, regardless of party. This includes facing questions about second incomes; anyone earning money outside of being an MP should be open and transparent about where the money came from and why. For example, who is Kier Starmer giving legal advice to for 70 hours earlier this year at £251 ph?
 Share this content via...

They are just routinely exploited or ignored and nothing is done about it, except for the odd one held up as the 'exception.' Just another example of the corruption and sleaze that seems to follow this government around. The rules allow MPs to put their housing costs on expenses while renting out their homes, however it's completely wrong. I suspect that MPs who do this know that it's wrong, but still do it anyway. That's the kind of cynicism that needs clamping down on. Some rules changed after the expenses scandal, but other loopholes still exist. I think IPSA need to be much tougher. I also think that no party can claim moral authority on this issue. In the dying days of the last Labour government there were ex Ministers like Steve Byers, Geoff Hoon, and Patricia Hewitt whose behaviour caused them to be suspended from the Labour Party. Some MPs behave within the spirit of the rules, others don't. Relying on the goodwill or sense of MPs to be more observant of moral principles than the general public just won't cut it anymore. There needs to be a complete overhaul of the rules governing what MPs and ministers can and cannot do.
 Share this content via...

alchresearch 214 #1968 Posted November 15, 2021 One of the biggest shouters about second jobs was Angela Rayner. I wonder if it was to get Starmer's second job on the radar and undermine him? Of course, some people don't need second jobs when the donations flow in like this!
 Share this content via...
