The Labour Party - Part 2

I would just like to say , I think Chris Bryant MP is a thoroughly nice and considerate bloke

He's certainly done his bit in the past to share what he's got. Some might say he was oversharing, but each to their own. ;)

What's very disappointing is that it's taken until yesterday for Starmer to call for Claudia Webbe to be removed from office. She's not there because of his wing of the party but it's his party and he's still got the headbangers in there and his reform efforts look ineffectual and weak-kneed so far. If the local party manage to put up Keith Vaz as Webbe's replacement candidate as rumoured, it's back to square one for Labour for most voters.

He needs to get a proper grip, as did Kinnock, and at least give one if his successors a decent chance at winning an election. Starmer's not a winner, but he can be a reformer.

How do you target people like that when the Tory owned media are against you?

They need to start making an effort to do so. The press isn't exclusively tory.

It is in Anna's eyes.  We've had this tired old rhetoric from her dozens of times.  People point out the parts of the media which  definitely isn't Tory but she either disappears until the posts are forgotten after a few pages or comes up with some "they're just Tory Lite" reply.

The Independent is an interesting case in point  In 2015 it opined that a continuation of the Conservative–Liberal Democrat coalition after the general election would be a positive outcome.

However according to a YouGov poll in 2017, The Independent was the only newspaper that was seen as broadly centrist, albeit with a leftist bent. Just over a third (37%) of people consider it to sit in the political centre; whilst a further 26% said they thought it was slightly left-of-centre.

People viewed the Guardian as the most left of centre newspaper which is strange because on that basis The Guardian should've been applauding Jeremy Corbyn all the way to the ballot box. They certainly weren't - they were critical of many aspects of Corbyn's tenure whilst Leader of the Opposition.

This suggests to me that the Overton Window has shifted rightwards, and continues in that vein

Why should The Guardian  be applauding Corbyn  ?. He was a shocking politician , against one of the worst PMs for years he failed . Maybe The Guardian knew this and kept their powder dry .

Exactly this.

If you remember, prior to 2015 people had all but stopped voting with some of the lowest turnouts in electioms ever. The reason Corbyn stood at all was to give people a realistic choice for change. And it was working well until the elites realised he was a serious threat. After that the smear campaign was relentless.

We are now back to a one party neoliberal system, so the pressure is of. It really doesn't matter who wins, they are literally all the same, and have absolutely no compunction in breaking every manifesto promise they make.

This is democracy as theatre, nothing more....

Starmer backs down on another of his pledges...

Keir Starmer has refused to commit to his leadership election pledge to abolish the House of Lords.

Asked on Sunday whether he stood by the promise made in 2019, the Labour leader would only say the institution “needs change”.
