The Labour Party - Part 2

Recommended Posts

Brilliant own goal from Ed Milliband yesterday, when he called for an electric car revolution then admitted he doesn't have one (though surely he can afford one). But he's "been in one", lol. Top corner of the net, that one. We do need an electric car revolution and a green energy revolution, but any chance of leading by example?

To be fair to Ed, would he actually need a car at all, what with him being an MP and having train travel at his disposal?

I think that the cowardly/corrupt mishandling of the pandemic (thank god Mr. Gove's hated experts were left alone to handle the vaccination programme!) aided and abetted by lack of any meaningful opposition,  shows that our political system is unfit for purpose in the modern age. The human race needs to move together to a more collectivist approach if we are to deal effectively with the threats to the planet as a whole and us as a species. All journeys (and this one is going to be a long and painful one) start with a single step and the first in the right direction is PR.

I agree entirely, but PR also needs a complete change of mindset.

After centuries of oppositional government, MPs will have to get used to the idea of co-operating with fellow colleagues of whatever party, and planning for the longterm, otherwise every decision will be mired in endless argument and nothing will get done.

This will go against the grain, especially for many of the Tories, who believe they were born to rule.

The lobbyists will have their work cut out as well, hopefully we will see the end of them.

Anyway, it seems that Labour may be on track to lose the May bye-election in the previously safe Hartlepool seat.

The odds have now swapped and the Tories are just favouites. I hope Labour win, we dont need more of Boris Johnson, we need less. But its early days. at least Starmer is performing better than Corbyn in the polls.

Part of the issue with the Hartlepool seat is with the local candidates Labour have offered.  The previous one had issues and the new one isn't much better.

The Northern Independance party has not paid its fees in time. So at least they should not split the vote too much, their candidate is still standing, as an independant.

Paul Williams in 2011 he asked an inappropriate question on social media about 'Tory  MILF'.

Not great, but it's way down the charge list of Boris Johnson's misdemeanors.

A pint, a pie & a cheery word.

Given his complaint was about Starmer not opposing the government's lockdown measures, it doesn't look like the landlord would have treated Boris any better.
