I don’t think it is an issue at all for most people. They just pay and get on with it. Edited August 2, 2020 by Planner1
 Share this content via...

Annie Bynnol 612 #54 Posted August 3, 2020 (edited) How would you differentiate between people who have come to spend and those that don't spend anything? What will be the effect on the City of the queues and pollution of the traffic waiting to park for free. Who pays for the free parking? Who compensates the commercial providers? What incentive is there for commercial companies to develop proper car parks? How does free City parking on semi derilict lots fit in with the creation of a more attractive City? Why should I and others who who don't drive into the centre sponsor the car driving habits of others, when there are alternatives? nikki-red 307 #55 Posted August 3, 2020 If spaces were made a lot cheaper or free, there’d be even less chance of getting one. A lot of people that work in the city centre and currently use public transport would then start driving in.
 Share this content via...

Over my way Lytham town centre has free parking for two hours and thrives. The other seaside towns which surround it all have pay and display parking everywhere and they're all struggling. That’s not being disputed,it’s the price hike that affects people’s pockets.
 Share this content via...

Are you comparing comparisons between wealthy Lytham St Annes with poor and seasonal Blackpool and Fleetwood or between between Sheffield (not seasonal and not poor) and Lytham St Annes? Either way nothing to do the biggest factor on the Fylde which is the historic "class" snobbishness between all four. My Grandma used to say that she lived "between Lytham and St Annes" which in reality was Lytham Road and St Annes Road between the railway yard and Pleasure Beach. Are the restrictions in Blackpool still seasonal?
 Share this content via...

Sheffield's prices are cheaper than Leeds and Manchester and that reflects that the place isn't as large or attractive and doesn't generate the same level of demand as those places. The Council now controls only a small proportion of the parking in Sheffield city centre and the Council's prices compare well to the ones charged by the private sector in the central area. They charge £3 to £4.50 per hour. Most cities charge into the evening and the evening charges here are a flat rate of a£2 for the whole period from 4.30 to 8.30, which really isn't going to put off anyone coming in to spend money on an evening's entertainment. It also compares well to the charges in Leeds (£3.20 for the evening) or Manchester (£3/hr) Good old planner1, claims not to work for sccc but yet jumps into bed with them to defend everything they do wrong, or just disagrees with any person on here that shoots them down. Ill give you that ! Your posts are fun. Have a pat on the back fella. 🤣
 Share this content via...
