hobinfoot
This statue was quite rightly taken down. The statue shows the woman making a Black Power salute which I personally find has offensive has someone making Nazi salutes promoting white Power. She's also from a Windrush family too, which makes it even more appropriate, in my opinion. How can Bristol council let a slave trader stand there, an insult to the black community, for decades, yet remove a beautiful installation of a black activist within 24 hours? I don't think you can compare Jen to a Nazi, really! I didn't see a statue of an advocate of Black Power, just a statue of an activist celebrating a much-needed and overdue positive change brought about by people, black and white, coming together. The raised fist is a symbol of solidarity and activism, used by people of all ethnicities around the world. Maybe you could work on an “easily offended by things that aren’t remotely offensive” salute. Maybe, fingers in ears or something like that.
