I hope they all vote for a statue of Jan Reid!

Yes, me too.  I thought the statue was brilliant.  She's also from a Windrush family too, which makes it even more appropriate, in my opinion.

How can Bristol council let a slave trader stand there, an insult to the black community, for decades, yet remove a beautiful installation of a black activist within 24 hours?

This statue was quite rightly taken down. The statue shows the woman making a Black Power salute which I personally find has offensive has someone making Nazi salutes promoting white Power.

Wow.  I don't think you can compare Jen to a Nazi, really!

I didn't see a statue of an advocate of Black Power, just a statue of an activist celebrating a much-needed and overdue positive change brought about by people, black and white, coming together.  The raised fist is a symbol of solidarity and activism, used by people of all ethnicities around the world.

if you want to make such a fuss about slavery how about the romans??? or Italians as we now know them. the Romans were the biggest slave traders ever? dont see many protests around Roman architecture or Roman statues. what about la scala?? or pizza express?

I think you are holding a minority view there.

Maybe you could work on an “easily offended by things that aren’t remotely offensive” salute. Maybe, fingers in ears or something like that.
