Indeed it was. Unfortunately the turnout in Wakefield was abysmally low so is not much of a credit to Labour. LibDems did well though so credit to them.

The Wakefield turnout was fairly typical for a by election.

Tory apathy and tactical voting was the only reason for a win in Wakefield for Labour.

Its like a football team claiming a fantastic win when the other team didn't show up.

I'm surprised that top Tories haven't cottoned on to that:

Michael Howard calls on Boris Johnson to resign after byelection defeats

It must be bad if creatures of the night are rising from their crypt to say that Johnson should go.

I've just thought, it's come out that Johnson when Foreign Secretary tried to get Carrie, his then lover, a job in the Foreign Office.

Now that Lord Geidt has vacated the ethics advisor role, perhaps he should nominate Carrie for that role?

....

Shouldn't that be allegedly tried to get Carrie that job?;)

It's probably the reason the original article and other prints of it was withdrawn as there is no actual evidence to back it up and it all hinged on hearsay.

Clutching at straws again Dromedary...

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/boris-johnson-suggested-two-plum-27285766

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/boris-johnson-carrie-job-lord-geidt-b2105770.html

Plenty of people suggest evidence exists... and Boris doesn't deny it either.

The reason it was withdrawn was that No 10 put pressure on the Times to do so.

https://pressgazette.co.uk/carrie-johnson-job-foreign-office-times/

More sleazy and trump-tastic behaviour from the lying, cheating, racist, sexist, bully that is the PM.

Not clutching at straws as it's just as I have said, hearsay with no actual proof at all. Suggesting evidence exist is also just hearsay. Its would be very unusual for any newspaper not just the Times to withdraw such a spectacular coup against the PM if they had conclusive evidence to back it all up. The Times especially have never pulled any punches before when criticizing Johnson so why now?

Yet another scraping the barrel failure by the press and you for trying it on.:)

@Litotes is correct. There are a series of articles in UK papers making the allegation. If it was untrue, they’d have vanished into the ether just like the Times article.

Anyhoo… Here is an uncomfortable view from across the pond.

Just been watching politics Thursday night in Barth as they like to say .,the union man was fed to the wolves .  The host made sure off that. But most off the audience who were against mick  seemed not to know what people that were not well heeled  would do , but some did understand the situation, the labour man from Wales said they would sit down with the union guys and talk, but our guy makes excuses all the time ,one thing most seem to agree on was boris should go
