The Conservative Party - Part Two.

Recommended Posts

I would like to know what the plan is to help out all the “working poor “who are about to be bankrupted by their energy bills. Given that Maggie flogged the utility’s off and there is also another thread on here regarding water bills.

You can get a three month subscription to the DT for three quid if you try. Easy to cancel online too.

Might be the best three quid you've ever spent to watch them setting the attack dogs onto Johnson.

Just ask West 77 for his username and password!

It's nothing to do with parties though. They just think that he's too left wing😀

He's toast.

He cannot say he has managed the economy well, not with 7% inflation

Why are the Metropolitan Police in contact with the cabinet office over this matter if there aren't any potential breaches in laws, never mind rules?

Met Police in contact with Cabinet Office over reports of lockdown-breaking Downing Street party | The Independent

Because that's how the police work when a potential offence has been committed. They obviously need to investigate the rumours to see if there is any truth to them because of all the publicity given by the media.

7%? it's more like 5%. Now just remind us of what % inflation is elsewhere in Europe and the USA, no don't bother. According to the FT (7th Jan 21) its 5% in the Eurozone and 6.8% in the USA.

Up until recently, the message to the poor was to 'get on your bike' and 'work your way out of poverty'.

Since the penny dropped that that's what the vast majority of the poor have always done, the Tories have supported various interventions such as top ups, in work benefits, modest rises in minimum wages etc. Sometimes they have to be dragged kicking and screaming, e.g. Marcus Rashford's intervention during the lockdown about food poverty.

I suspect that the 'entrepreneur' Molly-Mae Hague articulated what some Tories would love to say on the issue, but daren't:

That's the RPI and not the CPI. The CPI is the main measure of inflation and is now the international accepted way of how it is calculated to meet international standards. The RPI rate is 7.1% but the CPI is 5.1%.

Oh okay. I thought that they said that they didn't investigate retrospective breaches of law with regards to Covid....
