The written version of Johnson’s views read better than his ramblings on the radio this morning but for me he is devoid of any substance when it comes to addressing the problems facing the poorest in society.

When does the levelling up process begin?

By far and away the most "er's" per minute of any PM I've ever heard.

The interview by Andrew Marr was much worse.

Boris quote: "The food industry does involve killing a lot of animals," in response to culling thousands of pigs.

What an absolute tool.

That cull started today, according to the news.

It's started. By forcing people in lower paid jobs to think about how they can get a better income to keep up with the rise in costs. Ditching the Human Rights Act and Working Time Directive and other 'obsolete' EU rules the Tories will have this country be mini-USA in no-time, where those not fortunate enough to have a big enough income will have to work two or three jobs to keep up.

The USA is one of the most unequal countries. They're sold 'the American Dream' but millions fail to achieve anything like it,  hence its enormous underclass.  So much for levelling up...

Why do our governments always look to America as an example ? There are better role models.

New Zealand.

based on what?

https://datacommons.org/place/country/NZL?utm_medium=explore&mprop=amount&popt=EconomicActivity&cpv=activitySource%2CGrossDomesticProduction&hl=en

A lot of stats make NZ and GB fairly close to each other

A financial equality study by the University of Wellington (and other sources) all report a disparity in income between the rich and poor

https://www.wgtn.ac.nz/__data/assets/pdf_file/0007/1935430/WP-21-10-wealth-inequality-in-New-Zealand.pdf

So what are you basing New Zealand on and (to Anna) which countries are you thinking of?

But does it have the inequality of the rich and poor like the US has?

Just look at LA, it has Hollywood, the stars, the film industry, but it also has people living in tents and masses of squalor and rubbish strewn alleys
