The Conservative Party - Part Two.

I think he’s pretty good at the football thing and at the politics thing too. The Tories don’t like him, because embarrasses them. A sub section of the U.K. public don’t like him because he’s black.

Natalie Elphicke would be well advised to shut up and get in with her own job. She could start by concentrating on ensuring that poor kids get fed, instead of making excuses for her sex offender husband.

I don’t see the Tories being embarrassed by this kid, they are so far ahead of Labour that they can afford to ignore them, however his Man Utd form should embarrass him. I’m not very political, but would advise him to watch out for wannabe politicians that wish to hitch a ride on him. As for the colour of his skin, racism is a by product of stupidity, so not being stupid I don’t understand these people, never have, never will.

Can't disagree.  So where does that place our PM who is on record referring to Moslem women wearing burkas as "letterboxes" and people of colour having "picanniny smiles"?

Mrs Elphicke makes a valid point. Since Marcus Rashford has got involved in politics his form has dipped for Manchester United who pay his high wages.  If a footballer has an unconventional technique when taking penalties then he's going to get more stick when he misses one.  It seems fair a Tory MP should criticise a high profile footballer when they don't do their job properly just like when a high profile football criticises the government when they think they are not doing their job properly.

If the Tories hadn't been planning on letting children go hungry last summer Marcus Rashford wouldn't have felt the need to get involved in politics.

Maybe if Mrs Elphicke spent more time on her job the country would not be in such a mess, rather than spending her time watching football and commenting on it.

I'd be amazed if we don't soon hear a  news story where a top English football club have a clause in a contract with a player that forbids them from getting involved in politics.  Also television companies may consider a gagging clause in light of recent comments made by Gary Neville.  Gary Lineker is another  one who has spoken about political issues in the past.

Perhaps MPs should have a clause in their contracts to forbid them from commenting on any sports they weren't involved with before becoming politicians. Lets face it, Whilst Johnson hasn't done a Cameron style getting confused about which club he's supposed to support, neither of them have ever had the slightest bit of interested in football. Johnson's embarrassingly transparent big England flag outside No. 10 stunt is hardly going to convince the Scots and Welsh that he has the interests of the whole of the UK at heart.

...And then wearing an England shirt with No. 10 on the front.  Ms Patel would not have been happy - "gesture politics."

Typical Johnson - it's all about him.

Do you think the Tory government should run past all polices and decisions with Marcus Rashford before adopting them?

No, I think they should show a bit of compassion when deciding on their policies. Then people like Rashford wouldn't feel the need to comment.

There is a slight difference between a  high profile footballer getting paid £200,000 per week by a club employing him to play football whose form has recently gone down hill than a MP on a very modest salary making one comment. Would you be happy if you were the owner of Manchester United and one of your star players wasn't bringing home the bacon because his head wasn't fully on the job that he's being so generously being paid to do.

"the bacon" for the owner of Manchester United is the money the club attracts and it is not soley related to the performance of the club on the pitch. If a player's comments on the government increase the revenue to the club that is "bringing home the bacon".

As neither Scotland or Wales were in the final Boris Johnson would have looked rather silly displaying either a Scottish or Welsh flag in Downing Street.  Part of the job of any prime minister is to give support to UK national sporting teams competing in high profile finals.

Nobody has suggested he should have displayed a Scottish or Welsh flag. Lets face it, he was just trying to bask in some reflected glory from the success of the team.

I would have thought that a club like Man Utd would have protected this kid from the  media, politicians, etc who are hitching a ride on him.

Neville and Lineker like any citizens in a democracy are free to express their views on what the bloody hell they like.

Gary Neville has been employed by ITV sport as a  football pundit during the recent European championships to talk about the football and not his political opinions which he ranted on about after one of the recent matches.  By all means if he wants to discuss politics then the correct place to do so is on programs such as Peston and Question Time.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see Neville or Lineker on Question Time along side the bubbling cockwomble who calls himself our PM?

Are you related to West 77 who made this very sensible post;

Do you see the connection between the booing of opposition players and their anthems and the booing of England players taking the knee and comments by Johnson and Patel?
