Quite so.

How is the food in that photo adequate enough to feed a child its dinners for 10 days? And in no way do the scraps of food given cost £30.

Interesting that the parent group is called 'Compass'. Certainly not short for compassion!

Nice to see that those who usually defend this Government have been chastened in to silence, and I'm not surprised.

They've got their tentacles everywhere -  universities, military, schools.

Its not intended for 10 days but 5 and costed out at £10.50 not £30. Unfortunately its the usual Facebook/Twitter rants that have got it wrong. Having said that its a very poor show and should be much better.

This is the BBC's take on it:

Not so! I am against giving out food boxes or vouchers and I am all for the parent to get extra means tested money so the parent can buy the food. Its economically better to do it that way.

They had a flask of coffee or tea which is why they were originally judged by the police to be not exercising. Let's be honest some people  together who are really socialising pretend they are exercising when confronted by the police.

I do agree that Boris Johnson could have exercised within the Downing Street garden and it was predictable someone would take a picture of him riding a bike in the Olympic Park.  However,  nobody else in the country has the stress which the duties of being a Prime Minister carry during a pandemic and if riding a bike in the Olympic Park helped him relax for a period of time then he shouldn't be criticised.

So everyone has to run or cycle? Hogwash. They were walking, not sitting, not standing. Maybe you try and con the police, I don't. If that's the case SYP could literally fine thousands of people a day at rother valley country park (And no doubt others) who have the audacity to take a brew with them when they walk round a lake with temperatures just above zero.

Of course he should be criticised, hes running the country not the Dog and Duck. Set an example man. That said, if he's cycled to the Olympic park I'd have less of an issue - 7 miles isn't much on bike. Downing Street refused to confirm or deny that so we are to draw our own conclusions. Heaven help anyone who gives a straight answer.

Cronyism exists everywhere and is not just confined to governments past or present as its already out there in organisations, companies etc. As far as wasting taxpayers money, that is something I have no control over and has existed in every government I have ever voted for be it Labour or Conservative. For me spending obscene amounts on Trident and HS2 is also a waste of taxpayers money.

The issue isn't that he went for a bike ride rather than exercised in his garden. It's that he went so far away when there were much closer and arguably more suitable places to exercise. Here is a map centred on Downing Street with a marker on the Olympic Park. Note all the parks far, far close to Downing Street.

You don't think that cronyism hasn't got worse with this particular government?

So it shouldn't be called out?

Trident & HS2 hasn't got anything to do with cronyism, as far as I'm aware.

It certainly has with the "we can't go through the normal procurement procedures because of covid" get your mates to bid for contracts thing. Even if there isn't time to go through the full normal procedures there has been plenty of time to set up some sort of fast track limited checks procedure so it's not completely snouts in the trough for Tory MPs'/Lords' mates.

There is an issue of security where it is safe for the Prime Minister to go for a bike ride.  Common sense tells me terrorists also have access to maps which show how close parks are to Downing Street.  The petty political point scoring about Boris Johnson's bike ride is embarrassing.

The Olympic Park is just as much a public place. The logical conclusion of your argument is that senior government figures shouldn't exercise in public at all.

Is BoJo meeting his mistress over at the Olympic Park?

Maybe he was bored of cycling in the local parks and wanted a change of scenery.
