Constant arguing about masks is so tiresome.

the truth is no one really knows do they - certainly not anyone on here and there doesn’t appear to be any definitive research anywhere either.

it’s made all the more confusing that WHO and Chris whitty etc have previously said they weren’t needed.

logic would say that something is better than nothing - but that applies to everything - you’d be safer wearing a cycling helmet all day every day - but how much safer?

i would imagine there are circumstances where they would significantly increase protection but others where they are useless - just my opinion but  I think it’s probably right - the truth being somewhere in the middle.

I think that sums it up nicely.

The item I have highlighted in bold is you relying on your own credibility as a substitute for actual evidence.

Surgical masks (as popularised by the pandemic) are examples of masks worn for 'protection from the wearer' when used in surgery. 'Protection from the wearer' masking also takes place in crime scene investigation and semiconductor cleanrooms. Would you challenge these forms of usage? Do you think their usage in these scenarios arise from government or media propaganda, even though they predate the pandemic?

Here's an example of evidence suggesting a mask reduces flu, another virus, spread ( https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/petri-dishes-coughed-on-mask/ ). melthebell has given evidence in the form of a video giving mechanistic evidence, I posted another video in a similar vein a while ago.

Why do you insist, without ever giving evidence, that 'protection from the wearer' is absolute nonsense in the context of the pandemic?

The likes of Snopes are totally and utterly unreliable.

Well summed up, just to add that masks also need to be worn properly, not be re-used numerous times and are ineffective on people with facial hair.

No because they are totally corrupt and paid for by the very people who are convincing this nonsense is true. I think you better do some research into the founder of Snopes.

I don't need to follow spurious links when I risk assess masks for various construction tasks at least once a month, these RA's are then signed off by the  main contractors H&S teams and are subject to spot checks by their own inspectors and the HSE.

I think you’ve nailed it.

I posted some detailed research miles up there  ^^^, which quantified the risks in different settings The headlines were that ordinary cloth masks work well in low risk areas, but you need more specialised equipment in high risk areas such as covid wards.

I’ll try to find it later. It was a really interesting bit of work.

How many billions of pounds have our glorious leaders lost and paid out due to lockdowns and furlough? yes theyve made money but they hate the thought of us not working to make them richer too, this conspiracy doesnt stand up for me due to making money im afraid.

The furlough money comes out of taxes, selling  masks and having shares in companies that are profiting from Covid goes straight into their pockets, a major difference, have a look into who has gained in the last 18 months (clue - its isn't the poor).

On a different note what's happened to Covid, hardly hear it mentioned now, have they milked it dry?

It will come as a surprise to you but the vaccine works quite well. Less well though in the US where conspiracy theorists are more prevalent.
