petemcewan #3183 Posted December 17, 2020 This not bad news. MB. Sincerely hope things go well for the "gran". Presleyl. Well done. I wish they would put some giddy up in rolling it out-so I can get mine. Quote The strain was identified due to Public Health England’s (PHE) proactive and enhanced monitoring following the increase in cases seen in Kent and London. The variant has been named ‘VUI – 202012/01’ (the first Variant Under Investigation in December 2020). As of 13 December, 1,108 cases with this variant have been identified, predominantly in the South and East of England. PHE is working with partners to investigate and plans to share its findings over the next 2 weeks. There is currently no evidence to suggest that the strain has any impact on disease severity, antibody response or vaccine efficacy. A decision might be taken once half are vaccinated to let it rip through the rest on the grounds few will have serious issues (not old, not unhealthy). They're extending the furlough scheme to April so we can assume we're still in trouble.
 Share this content via...

They would not be able to vaccinate everyone by then anyway - timescale I saw was a year. So 6 months from now could be consistent with half the population vaccinated. 18 hours ago, melthebell said: the trouble with that is theyve found out people get sick because of a certain gene or genes, you dont know whos got the "angry" gene until they get it and then its too late, they are really really sick...or dead Yes but that is a tiny, tiny fraction that isn't going to overwhelm hospitals.
