Coronavirus - Part Two.

Recommended Posts

Football has had its chance at resuming, yet players seem quite willing to ignore all the rules put in place to keep us all safe.  Just looking at the England squads, we've had the Maguire arrest in Spain, Foden and Greenwood in Iceland, and now Abraham, Chilwell and Sancho just before meeting up for a series of matches.

Maguire is expected to play in this week's matches, Foden and Greenwood are due back after this week's matches, and no word yet if Abraham, Chilwell and Sancho are to be punished at all.

Is there any wonder that we see groups of youths flouting the rules and partying, when their heroes do the same without getting punished?  Hand out £1000 fines to them to send a message that that is the result you can expect.  Footballers can afford it - but can all youngsters?

I'm a big football fan, but players and clubs seem more interested in moaning about how they want terraces packed with supporters than in socially distancing to slow the spread of Covid and save lives.  I'd be in favour of saying "Enough is enough - football is now banned until we've got Covid under control".

The Government knew that re-starting education would lead to more Covid cases, but thought it a risk worth taking for the education.  Fair call.  The responsibility falls heavily on that sector (especially students) to behave responsibly.  We have heard lots of stories of student parties etc etc., but is that just a minority that the press have highlighted?

Whatever, we in Sheffield already have a high Covid rate.  We are also home to 2 major Uni's, so it follows that when term started that the Sheffield Covid rate would rise.  Other Uni towns and Cities will be facing the same.

What will be the Government's response?  Some form of Uni campus lockdowns?  Local lockdowns?  National lockdown?  Watch this space!

Heard Greg Fell, Director of Public Health in Sheffield, being interviewed this morning on Radio Sheffield.

Referring to further restrictions in Sheffield, he said it was not a matter of if but when, the way the figures are heading, unless there is a substantial reduction in the 'R' rate.  More than likely the first instruction would be not to visit others in their homes?

Remember, diarrhoea is not a symptom of COVID-19, so no running out & panic buying toilet rolls now you've read the above.

Big out break at the University (not surprising in my opinion- they were warned repeatedly):

Between 25 September and 1st October the university's Endcliffe Student Village has exploded (251 cases), followed by Broomhall (118), Sharrow (54), Devonshire Quarter (54), Highfield (66).

Fulwood & Lodge Moor (no students to speak of, but plenty of uni staff live there) had zero cases the week before, then it jumped to 15.

But how many of those students will socialise and pass it on to others (elderly, those with medical conditions etc) who suffer badly/die?  A fortnight or so before people show symptoms.... and how do you trace all contacts from a fortnight ago.....?

It probably won’t stay at zero. Also, some of those students will develop long term complications from the virus. Also, they will be transmitting it to others in the city, who will in turn transmit it to others. Many people caught in the crossfire will get seriously ill, or die.

The acceleration of infection and hospitalisation is pretty alarming at the moment. Anyone who pays any attention can see that.

We've got enough dead without wishing or wanting anymore, just to try & prove a point.

The fact that so many lives have been disrupted, the fact that so many will be suffering in the short term & many will end up with life long health problems is bad enough.

Trump Tweets

I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!

Oh ,nothing to worry about then

214,000 dead

16,000 in serious/ critical condition.

Highest number of new cases yesterday since July.

What a stupid thing of him to have said, should have thanked the Docs and headed home
