Coronavirus - Part Two.

Recommended Posts

The government put the fear of god in us, told us to stay in and work/study from home and avoid public transport. Several months later we still have problems with testing, ineffective track and trace ,companies happy to keep their staff working at home and reports of local lockdowns. Now everyone is supposed to revert to normal + masks and social distancing and use being bus/tram to keep city centre business alive. Combined with other issues in city centres is it any wonder that people are staying away

If people cannot eat their usual breakfast cerial they will be much thinner and survive a COVID episode.

Cool as I stopped eating breakfast several months ago and have lost 4 kilo since, mind you breakfast was usually a bacon and egg sarnie and not cereal. :hihi:

The Russians are playing a high risk game with their  Sputnik V  vaccine.

If it proves a dud, it could set back the global race for a safe and effective Cov-19 vaccine.

Personally I do hope the vaccine  works.

If you read carefully you will see that there are so many corners being cut,in order to roll  out the program.

In my opinion,it's a highly politicised strategy.

Of any of the counties in Europe with more than a million population:

Most deaths - UK

Most deaths per million - Belgium, followed by Spain then the UK

Most cases - Russia, followed by Span then the UK

Most cases per million - Spain, Moldova, Sweden, Belarus, Belgium, North Macedonia, Russia, Bosnia, Ireland, Portugal then the UK

Most tests - Russia followed by the UK

Most tests per million - Denmark followed by the UK

Sad fact is, as good as we are at testing, if you have Covid-19 then you have one of the highest chances in Europe of it killing you.

And that chance is.... less than 0.07% I believe! Not check the figure that much recently but no doubt someone here will be happy to correct me.

Surely the statistical chance of dying from Covid varies according to age, weight, ethnicity and existing health conditions. Current infection rate rises appear to be predominantly in younger people who, largely,  do not suffer severe effects hence the decrease in hospital admissions and deaths. Accordingly people seem to be carrying out their own risk assessments rather than following government guidelines

Yes, there’s probably some truth in that. I have also heard that ‘viral load’ is important.  Apparently people if people are exposed to virus now they are more likely get a smaller viral load than before restrictions were in place and hence are less likely to get very ill.  I imagine the fact that more socialising has been done outdoors over the summer may have played a role too.
Autumn and and winter are a big challenge though with kids at school and people spending more time indoors.

Of course, masks play a vital role in reducing viral load. That is probably one of many reasons why fewer people are being hospitalised.

Government guidelines are so confusing and contradictory, they have undermined public confidence rather than helped it. I wouldn't trust anything the government says at the moment. It all seems to come with a hidden agenda. They've messed up big time with the major issues like testing and  track and trace, and not testing at airports is a disgrace. I think we must be one of the few countries that doesn't have something/anything in place.

Good news.

Addendum:

Extinction Rebellion are barking up the wrong tree.

If we don't get a grip on defeating viruses and antibiotic resistant bacteria. It will be Pestilence that does us in -and not global warming .

Stay well and you all wear your face coverings. And don't forget your

annual flu vax.

So social gatherings of more than 6 will be banned from Monday. Full lockdown by end of September or will they push it to October?
