its just been on look north, Dame Sarah Storey named as Sheffield City Region Active Travel Commissioner says its not the new cycle lane that stopped the ambulance getting through the traffic, it was the traffic that stopped the ambulance getting through the traffic.

I will wait to see how that goes down.  Being a smart ass never really appeals to people.

Don't forget folks there is nothing better than a little bit of constructive feedback and opinion.  Even more since they've gone to the effort of setting up an official account for role so feel free.....

I agree with all of that with the exception of the comment of Cllr.Bob Johnson “that it provides a dedicated route across town for cyclists”

It doesn’t .

Good on the opposition councillor for speaking some common sense - as all the sensible posts on here have said it isn't that cycle lanes are a bad idea it's just that in this location it is completely inappropriate and wrong on the city main arterial ring road - and that's without pointing out again there was already a cycle lane, a massive pavement that could be partly used and alternate routes through kelham. Time for SCC and councillor Johnson to have the guts to admit this was plain wrong and change it back

Good, it was the traffic, glad to see people telling it the way it is. If the roads were not jammed with ridiculous numbers of cars emergency vehicles would never have problems.

Saw the interview with the Dame, saying it was cars fault for not moving that the ambulance couldn't get through.

Shame she didn't say where she expected the cars to go - red light in front of them so traffic regulations prevent them going forward, heavy duty bollards to the left so they can't go there, pavement to the right so they couldn't go there. Where do you think they should have gone Dave?

She wasn't telling it how it is - she was someone with an agenda telling it how she saw it, which is different.

The traffic was where it was legally entitled to be - had there been two lanes available like last week then the cars could have moved left and light to let an emergency vehicle through.

You'll be pleased to know that the Look North article said that the council is looking at the Shalesmoor scheme given the issues that it is causing.

To be fair, if Planner1 does sample the route, he should also do it on a cycle to get a real perspective.

In fact, to all the motorists slating this scheme, to be fair I think you also do it on a cycle, and then find a similar road during rush hour and compare how it feels when you're using the more traditional 'cycle paths' in the form of a narrow strip of paint full of grit at the edge of a busy road being passed by vans at a distance of 6 inches.

It's a good job there are vehicles on the roads to deliver all these bikes to the shops and deliver all the raw materials and bike parts to the bike factories.

Absolutle lunacy.

Can someone explain to her that the traffic was there as the cycle lane has cut the road's capacity & if there were two open lanes there would have been the facility for both lanes to move to the side and create space down the middle allowing the ambulance to proceed.

Police car in emergency was trying to get through today.

If they complain council will be more likely to reconcider their silly plans.

Doubt it.  There was a spokesman from the council on Look Leeds tonight commenting on the footage of the ambulance stuck in the traffic.  She said it wasnt the councils fault the ambulance was stuck it was the traffic that didnt get out of its way!!!   WHERE TO??????

Perhaps the paramedics should have been on bikes?  After all some of the supporters of this scheme on here think that everyone should be using cycles no matter the circumstances!!!

If the council wasnt reducing the road width for pointless overly wide cycle lanes there would not have been a problem.  The cycle lane next to the blocked carriageway was empty, strange that.
