Wigan Afc Go Into Administration

Recommended Posts

Wigan have become the first professional club to go into administration since the pandemic began, they have been struggling to manage their finances and say there was no alternative if they were to safeguard the club. The standard points deduction for an English Football League club entering administration is 12 points, which if applied would put them bottom of the league if the points are deducted this year.

Were they to finish this season in the bottom 3, then the points deduction would be applied next season. I think they are safe from relegation with their current points tally, but the 12 point deduction would place them 2 points lower than Luton. This offers something of a lifeline for Barnsley.

That only applies if they slip into the relegation zone this season, if they finish outside they get smacked for 12 points.

They have 50 currently, with a 12 point deduction they're in abit of bother.

I watched the EFL highlights last night and the programme host was saying that the new owners basically hadn't paid their dues. With it being a consortium, no one really knows who the new owners are.

Odd that Wigan Athletic may follow Bury FC down the plughole: both teams are in Greater Manchester and their woes overlap with the elevation of Salford City (also in Greater Manchester).

Wigan are victims of a major global scandal according to local MP Lisa Nandy?

" The crisis facing Wigan Athletic is linked to 'a bet in the Philippines on them being relegated."

The plot thickens?

Local MP Lisa Nandy and Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham have called for an investigation into Wigan Athletics recent takeover. Sounds a bit odd the EFL approved the new owner just days before they went into administration.

The Fit and Proper rule needs overhauling, totally not fit for purpose.
