Pubs Reopening This Weekend.

so finally we get a chance to get back to a bit of normality, although i am not sure how restaurants and pubs are going to cope, its going to be a bit of suck it and see i think.

i certainly dont want to be greeted on a night out by overbearing and  cautious screens at the bar or waitresses clad in face masks or visors?

no i dont want to see it particularly, the idea of a pub or night out is socialising without screens all over.

Pop to Leicester. They have plenty of pubs without Perspex screens.

Unfortunately that is what you’re gonna see - or at least should see.

 

it will certainly be the case in most city centre pubs - not so sure about suburban locals.

 

i still can’t see how it can work practically in those places although I hope it does.

 

im gonna go for a pint on Sunday hopefully if I can  find somewhere with a beer garden that isn’t packed out.

Listening to Toby Foster this morning on Radio Sheffield.  He'd been checking out what pubs are up to & spotted one in Barnsley where they want you to pre-book a table, cost £20 of which you'll get £15 back to spend on your drinks.  When you book, they also want a screen shot of your payment details emaied to them, along with the personal details of those in your group.  Then you've got to download their ordering app.  Finally, you've got a maximum of 2 hours to enjoy your new drinking experience. 

 

If this is the amount of faffing about that most pubs are going to apply, then we'll give it a miss for a while. 

 

Also interviewed this morning was the landlord of the Frog & Parrot.  He's not opening until Monday of next week when it will be a bit quieter & he & his staff can ease in & iron out any problems they have with their new procedures.  He's certainly no intention of opening on the 4th July.

I work in a bar, small shop, cafe, restaurant , visitor attraction in whitby. we are planning on opening on saturday, we are going in weds - fri to prepare, its going to be horrible trying to enforce social distancing and visitor numbers.

Also from what i've read you need to ask before using the toilet?  you cant sit with people from outside your "bubble", a lot of places you cant drink without food, and have a 2 hr time limit?

I remember watching social distancing in bars in Italy and thought "that doesn't look fun". The screens thing at the bar wouldn't bother me but the whole experience doesn't seem like a lot of laughs.

Dont forget as well the guidance states no loud music / tv / sport so people dont have to talk loudly, shout thereaby emitting more spit and possibly the virus, no live music.

Does anyone know what other pubs apart from Wetherspoons are re-opening in the city centre from 4th July ? I know a few that are not, so I'm guessing there won't be that many ?

The other day I read about a bar in central Manchester that was intending to open at 00:01 on the 4th of July.  I'm surprised I've not read about any pub or bar in Sheffield, jumping on the same bandwagon? 

 

On a slightly separate note, the landlord of the Frog & Parrot was saying this morning that taking COVID-19 out of the occasion & looking forward, people might get used to the practices introduced & very much like most of continental Europe, people might get used to walking into a pub / bar & immediately sitting at a table & then have waiter service throughout? 

 

You'd certainly need more staff so I'm guessing that the cost of a night out would go up? 

 

How it would go down in the Hen & Chickens, I don't know?  😁
