gavnmel   10 #1 Posted June 7, 2020 Hi,anyone else having bother with the blighters making a mess of there beds? I put 42 onions in a raised veg bed last week, and the morning after at least a bloody dozen had been pulled out. What's peoples advice on keeping them off? I've put a decorative windmill in to see if it helps but they still keep strolling about on the bed!!!!
 Share this content via...
Thorpist   72 #2 Posted June 10, 2020 One of the joys of gardening, if you net the onions the blackbirds will head for any other area they can scrape to get at food . My spuds are their favourite area. Sparrows on peas ,Red leg partridge getting under netting to eat brassicas ,Pheasants and blackbirds eating fruit the minute it ripens . Isn't it fun gardening! taxman   12 #3 Posted June 10, 2020 Put some rotten apples out nearby, they'll prefer that as food.
 Share this content via...
Janus   28 #4 Posted June 11, 2020 @OP Have you actually seen the black birds doing this? The reason I ask is because I have had problems with Magpies. I have had young plants pulled from pots. When discussing this on a garden forum, many others described the nuisance that the Magpies have been to the plants.
 Share this content via...
Refugee   0 #5 Posted June 18, 2020 I have has potatoes unearthed by blackbirds and also mulch thrown off. I have found that if the mulch is thick enough they tire of it. Pigeons are more of a problem.
 Share this content via...
