When will NGH re-open for diagnostics appointments?

Recommended Posts

Wonder when NGH will re-open for diagnostic appointments. I was referred for a heart scan on 17 February and had appointment for 21 March which was cancelled the day before. I got a letter 2 weeks ago to say appointments suspended for foreseeable future. My worsening symptoms are being treated by GP but admits to being in the dark without a diagnosis. An acquaintance on the other side of the city has had the same scan at Chesterfield during lockdown with only a short wait. Why the difference?

re-open?

I was there a couple of weeks ago for an MRI. It was a 07:20 Sunday appointment and they did say the Hallamshire one was for COVID patients only. I know there's many types of scan, just saying that I was there recently. My GP told me last Thursday "things are changing on a day to day basis" Probably not the answer you want.

Would it be an option to go to Chesterfield? Might be worth mentioning if you can.

Today I received a letter from my GP saying my HH appointment will be within 10 days and implies that appointments  are not allocated weeks/months in advance as was normal.

I thought about that but would have to wait for referral again. Also I m shielding and don’t have transport so Carlow return by taxi would be really expensive. If HH starting up again hopefully NGH won’t be too far behind

Most GP surgeries are operating on a phone appointment basis. They aren't closed!  Ring and get a phone consultation, and if the doc thinks you need to be seen in person, you will be.

Exactly this.

My every 14 day visit to the GP is now an every 14 day phone call. As above, they are still working. The only problem I've had was one receptionist thinking she was a doctor. I did have to have a few polite but stern words with her.

Hurray for phone appointments!

A long morning  starting  with a  sometimes painful walk to the Hallamshire and shunting  through corridors,  waiting, harassed staff  and patients -you all know it,  has turned into much more relaxed and productive 15 minutes, where there was plenty of time to discuss the medication and future course of treatment. I really felt that the specialist was more relaxed and communicative. Bloods will be done at my local GP . I appreciate that this will not work in many cases as a physical investigation is unavoidable, but if possible I recommend giving it a go.

A minor but essential surgery has also changed as two of the three pre op stages are now to be done by phone.

Can’t fault my GP. After 1st month of treatment for symptoms whilst waiting for diagnostic scan, given another month but told no more. 3 weeks after finishing 2nd course symptoms really bad, rang doctors and had phone call with doctor. As shielding he arranged for 8am appointment so I avoided other patients, he was very reassuring and prescribed further medication. He saw me waiting in car park and came out to make sure I had the means to get home
