Michael_N   33 #2 Posted May 22, 2020 So how will buses from West Street heading into City actually get down onto Arundel Gate? You'd have thought they would keep the road open to cyclists and buses to aid public transport and active travel, rather than once again causing all this disruption.  Makes you wonder where they find the people who come up with these hair brained ideas...
 Share this content via...

The former routes could I suppose be diverted via Arundel Gate to Furnival Gate but this wouldn't exactly improve access to the top of Fargate/Barkers Pool/Peace Gardens.
 Share this content via...

Rotherham town centre tried that back in the 1990s. Rotherham town centre is now on it's knees and has more empty shops than open ones. If anything it's High Street and Church Street that should be closed off, rather than Pinstone Street. Much busier and the pavements are also narrower, particularly by McDonald's. Bargepole23 Â Â 337 #8 Posted May 22, 2020 Here's a link providing a bit of evidence on the benefits to retail, environment and public health after pedestrianisation. Martin C   81 #9 Posted May 22, 2020 I'm not against pedestrianisation - far from it. Just interested and intrigued as to the impact of this scheme on the many bus routes that run via Pinstone St.
 Share this content via...
ads36   205 #10 Posted May 22, 2020 Good stuff.  Very happy to see this kind of thing. Much of this is long overdue.  Some of these changes will work really well, we'll wonder why we waited so long. Some changes will take longer to settle/resolve. But trying to carry on as usual isn't an option.
 Share this content via...

Tough, bus will have to wait. It will still be quicker than the long way around.
 Share this content via...
