mheeley   10 #1 Posted May 3, 2020 My GGG Grandfather, Thomas Heeley, was left some properties at the former Bloomsbury Place which subsequently became 129 to 141 Crookesmoor Rd (odd numbers only) and included The Bloomsbury Tavern at the junction with Union Street. These were left to him by a George Addy. Does anyone know who George Addy was? I notice there was /is an Addy Street next to Crookesmoor Road.  Thanks for any info Mike Heeley Sorry , the junction was with Albion Street. Jeffrey Shaw   90 #2 Posted May 3, 2020 There seem to have been various such-named people in Sheffield.  Start with https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&sxsrf=ALeKk00s63BXDABgDSAAlOshIRLk-dku8A%3A1588510998004&ei=FcGuXs70PLCBhbIPuoaGwA8&q=george+addy+sheffield&oq=george+addy+sheffield&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQDDoECCMQJzoGCAAQFhAeOggIABAWEAoQHjoCCAA6BQghEKABOgcIIRAKEKABUMQVWPovYL4_aAFwAHgAgAHxB4gBoRWSAQ00LjQuMS41LTEuMC4xmAEAoAEBqgEHZ3dzLXdpeg&sclient=psy-ab&ved=0ahUKEwiO04fO4JfpAhWwQEEAHTqDAfgQ4dUDCAs  Also see https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#calendar to look at his Will/Probate, once you know in about which year 'your' George Addy might have died. According to Peter Harvey's book Addy St was first named Addey St. It was built on land owned by two brothers, members of the Addey family from Cudworth who came to Sheffield in late 18th c, they were Tanners. Name was changed in 1915 by Watch Committee for unknown reason Edited May 3, 2020 by Re-Enactor words changed
 Share this content via...
