Captain Tom

Pretty unreal to see what the fellas done. I bet he and most people probably thought it would struggle to reach his initial goal since there are many other fundraisers going on. Outstanding stuff.

My son who lives in America says it’s been on the tv news and in the newspapers over there.

It's just unfortunate that efforts like this are needed instead of the government doing its job of properly funding public services from the taxes that most people pay and clamping down on those that don't.

Brilliant reaction from the public for this great (almost) centurion !

But lets not get carried away with knighthoods etc. Their are thousands of volunteers and fund raisers that help the less fortunate on a regular basis who will always be unsung heroes .  Im not detracting from what Capt Tom has achieved , truly amazing but lets not forget the everyday people.

There’s always room and generally a good public response to charitable donations to go above and beyond.

These charities are often driven by people with a real concern and vested interest in particular concerns.

Yes, let's not forget about our own local hero, John Burkhill, who had worked tirelessly for years.  I'm sure John though would be over the moon for Tom.  Well done to them both and everyone else who has done brilliant work in fundraising for worthy causes.👏

Hats off to Tom, but wouldn't it be great if some of our  (not disabled), long term unemployed thought, lets do something to give back for what we receive, maybe by sponsored walks etc, or volunteering

For all we know, some of the LTU could be part of the volunteer army.

Captain Tom should at least be given a back-dated promotion, then we could all play that David Bowie track.

A happy 100th birthday to Captain Tom, or is it Colonel Tom?

Have a lovely day, you deserve it.
