It's already been done. About three days ago it was changed so that you cannot join a meeting without the host accepting the request.

Zoom's security problems go way beyond issues joining meetings:

Zoom's end-to-end encryption isn't actually end-to-end at all.

Zoom vows to spend next 90 days thinking hard about its security and privacy after rough week, meeting ID war-dialing tool emerges

Not only is Zoom's strong end-to-end encryption not actually end-to-end, its encryption isn't even that strong

I wouldn't use Zoom for anything that has to be remotely secure.

I really have no idea what a petition is going to do though. Zoom has as much right to publish software as you or I, even if it's full of security holes.

A petition for a private software company writing software which does what they want it to? They've already said they'll try to fix things. But you have a lot of choice so don't use it.

No-one would even know about Zoom if it weren't for this outbreak.

A petition is just ridiculous.

Would you start a petition for any other software company to fix a bug in their software?

If you don’t like it use something else!

Why mindlessly post a petition link then? This post is actually useful because you provide alternatives.

The petition link was from an email I received - I did it to warn users who might be using it. Once bitten twice shy and all that. Just like I won't touch Linked-In after it was a source of viruses in the past.

Who the hell uses Zoom anyway. If you value security then use Skype.

Surprised that Zoom gets a mention at the end!

Just a quick update on Jitsi - this was working great in Firefox until the most recent update to Firefox - then Jitsi reported that currently Firefox isn't supported and to use either Chrome or Chromium - I found a better solution, because in Firefox I like the way there is a small icon that floats at the top of the screen to easily get back to Jitsi meet. The solution is to add 'User-Switcher and Manager Extension' thus:

file.php?id=6985&mode=view

Obviously if you are running a browser on the Windows platform then in the drop-down next to Linux you would choose Windows instead. Works great!

While you can't share your desktop using the above method, the alternative is to use Vivaldi Browser which uses Chrome extensions - now view desktop works!
