Covid 19 Bus Service Timetables

51s don't usually start picking up until Gleadless Common / Arbourthorne so you should be fine. However, there will be a 'near normal' service announced shortly. All bus operators who are currently eligible for BSOG payments will be ramping services up to around 70% pre Covid-19 levels from 1 June 2020, following government funding. This is a stipulation on the funding so many operators are currently working on these plans now. Services can currently be registered with just 24hrs notice - so keep an eye out on bus operators websites.

You can see more info on this funding package here: https://www.route-one.net/news/early-details-of-254m-package-for-buses-in-england-revealed/

Thanks Michael.

I'm particularly concerned about the extra loadings on the 51 from Charnock onwards, inbound - & also from the city centre, outbound - between 25th July & 1st September due to folk who'd normally use the tram but will need to use the 51 instead during that period as a result of the suspension of Supertram services to all stops south of Sheffield Station between those dates.

Hence I think that during this period it's inevitable that the 51s will be in considerably greater demand from customers living along the sections of the bus route which are normally served by the tram (bottom end of Charnock through to the top of Gleadless Common).  This, along with the limitations to vehicle capacity due to the necessity for social distancing, may mean that the buses reach their limited capacities much earlier than at present inbound & also that they're unable to accommodate the additional (ex-tram) customers trying to board in the city centre for travel to Townend?

Any truth in that Middlewood P&R is closing on Monday and the SL1/A becomes a 57/a to Hillsborough Interchange?

Got a friend who works on trams and they’ve said that SL1/A busses are being scrapped entirely.

The Park & Ride is certainly NOT closing!

There are changes to bus services in general (and trams) from 1st-8th June, mostly increasing services on the temporary Covid-19 timetables, these should be announced in the next day or two.

Stagecoach bus timetable changes from 1st June now started being posted on their website https://www.stagecoachbus.com/service-updates/serviceupdatesarticle?SituationId=ID-16/03/2020-11:36:24:186 including changes to the Stocksbridge network with current buses 57, SL1 and SL1a replaced with new buses 57/57a.

Information on service changes from Monday 1 June 2020 are now available online.

The Stagecoach bus service changes are a bit of a kick in the teeth for those living in Stocksbridge, Deepcar and Oughtibridge - who now lose their last direct service into Sheffield. The SL1/SL1A are being withdrawn and replaced with a revised 57/57A which will run between Stocksbridge and Hillsborough only.

The 57 (operated by First early morning, evenings and Sundays) hasn't been running at all on the current Covid-19 emergency timetable. Currently the SL1 runs once every 2 hours and SL1a runs once every 2 hours - hourly combined - both Middlewood-Stocksbridge.

From 1st June, yes Supertramlink is history, but the current 57/SL1/SL1a is replaced by the new 57/57a which combined runs half hourly - so a doubling of service. Hillsborough offers more trams than Middlewood for onward travel to Sheffield Centre and of course those just requiring the shops in Hillsborough won't need to change onto a tram.

The First bus 57 will also be reinstated (except on Sundays) running to a Saturday timetable.

All public transport through Covid-19 restrictions continue to only exist thanks to government funding.

Except now it surely increases the number of passengers changing in Hillsborough a stop which is already busy and therefore making social distancing EVEN harder!

This is clearly a long term cost saving exercise (evidenced by the fact that there will no longer be through ticketing!) introduced under the guise of covid-19.

Everything that exists at the moment is government funded, a new batch of funding comes in to play from June which is increasing most services in terms of both operating hours and frequency, there is a set amount of money though, which limits the provision.

Is the Tramlink removal permenant?

Getting on a bus will be interesting, since there are limits on how many can get on a bus.

Certainly until the end of the Covid-19 emergency timetables by the sound of it, nothing is really known beyond that.
