Hi folks,

I'm pretty new to gardening so please be kind 😊

I'm looking to make a raised bed for veg growing in my back garden. Has anyone got any tips for filling raised beds cheaply? Has anyone used the Green Estates "soil improver"? Is that any good for raised beds?

Thank you

Isn't that a euphemism for compost made from green bin waste? There can be contamination from herbicides. I would buy some soil (could still be contaminated) and mix it with lots of cheap compost. I usually look what compost Gardening Which? recommend as it changes each year. I had the magazine for thirty years but I stopped it at Christmas.

Any particular reason you want raised beds?

A couple of reasons not to use them are, they harbour slugs and woodlice, they also dry out quite quickly during hot weather.

On the plus side they look tidy.
