The remaining matches will be played.  They have to.  There is so much money riding on this for lots of clubs and for the TV companies as well of course.  But there's also the credibility of the competition.  You can't have a competition with huge prize money, but then cancel it part-way through and say, "we'll start a new one".   That just discredits the whole thing.  You have to finish this competition first - no matter how long it takes - even if it takes another year - you have to finish this one first, you can't start a new one, until you've concluded this one.

That's my view anyhow.

And no, I'm not saying we should take any risks with it.  I'm not saying it's more important than people's lives.  Not at all.  What I'm saying is, when we are finally on top of this coronavirus thing and it is deemed safe to have public events again, then, at that point, resume the football season and finish this one off.  If that means not starting the new season till December then fine.

In reality what is most likely to happen is that the restrictions on "lock down" will be lifted partially within the next month.  The remaining games will be allowed to be played behind closed doors and televised during May and June, to bring it to a conclusion.

I think it will be restarted next year around the same time it stopped this year (so early March 21).

they’ll then play this season out as normal from March 21 through to May / June 21.

sorry but that idea wouldn't be possible, even if you paid all the costs via the government, due to players contracts ect.

This season has to be finished even if they have to shorten next season to fit it in. They can lose 1 or both the cups to free up space and play 2 games a week if necessary

UEFA lifting the ban on televised Saturday 3pm matches in the last few days would suggest behind-closed-doors matches could be the solution. Lifting the TV ban will appease or please a number of supporters.

This surely looks like a decision made to enable the completion of the season.

that sounds a great solution and will appeal to the most, but you will always have some moaners, especially the season ticket owners

Unless the government lift the current restrictions it can't happen.

Quite right too! Some folk just don't want to "get it" and hopefully the likes of Sky/BT/Football agents and overpaid "superstars" are put in their place. Ok the fans want their football but frankly they/we should be made to wait until this horror is over.....when it is then maybe the stranglehold that the moneybags have on the game will be lessoned...who knows

how about doing vitual football until the end of the season, like the grand national, now that would cause a riot folks wouldn't it,but it would be a fun idea,if it was just done for intrest.
