How To Coordinate Three House Improvement Projects?

Recommended Posts

We need to do three house improvement projects at once, all requiring scaffolding. They are replacing windows, rendering/painting, and installing a/c in some rooms for health reasons. Some will require an electrician as well, and some planning permission. We may as well buy a new house for what it will cost, but we've been saving and it has to be done.

We've found good companies to do each part but it's going to be tricky scheduling them in and if one runs late it will affect the others. Need to make sure they don't get in each other's way.

We were wondering if we would be smart to get someone in to manage the work. Is that what a general contractor is? Any advice?

It will require some one who is a bit savy with the building trade.     .   I would have one firm do the lot who has there own contacts with electritions / painters / scaffolders etc  . you could do it yourself follow this

Scaffold first

Windows

Render then inside plaster patch

Electrition  then decorate. //  Do not get any trades in till one has finished  completely / This may take a bit longer but save on having to organise and  falling out and auguments

Would have been easier for you to choose one main contractor to manage it and use their preferred subcontractors.   However this also carries the risk of not getting on with the main contractor which can be a problem in itself.  Having already picked contractors for the various bits  it may be difficult to start again.  You are clearly aware of the potential pitfalls so you are in a good position to manage it.  Make sure you know what each contractor expects to be already in place when they turn up.  Try to avoid having multiple electricians as someone will need to sign off the electrics for building regs when all the alterations are done.

Do not try  .to organise everybody for windows see global home care they see  to own scaffold

Then a render firm let them scaffold as well /

Point is window firms and rendering plasterers need different type scaff renderers need an independent scaff

Not hard doing it this way bit longer but easy  y ou may even enjoy it

Russ at GLOBAL HOMECARE orgreave estate has done me loads of houses takes 3or 4 days tops
