El Cid 214 #5 Posted March 6, 2020 MPs will also receive a boost of at least £25,600 to their staffing budget, to allow them to increase aides' wages and therefore reduce turnover among staff. Many parliamentary workers are said to have struggled with their workload amid the political chaos of recent years. https://inews.co.uk/news/mp-salary-house-of-commons-rise-public-sector-wages-budget-2020-2112727
 Share this content via...
hauxwell 243 #6 Posted March 6, 2020 I don’t think MPs are overpaid. I remember reading a few years ago Council Executives and some department heads use to get paid more than MPs, some of their salaries was above a hundred thousand a year. I’m all in favour of cutting back on The House of Lords expenses, there’s to many of them.
 Share this content via...

Don't MP's decide their own payrise ? I'm not impressed by any of them, All the expenses fiddled just a few made an example of. alchresearch 214 #9 Posted March 6, 2020 According to this article, the money doesn't just go into MP's pockets, but for their offices and staff: Quote IPSA interim chair Richard Lloyd said: "Our review of MPs' staffing budgets in 2019 found demands on MPs' offices were high, with staff doing difficult and stressful casework with constituents on a very wide range of problems. "There was often high staff turnover, with salary levels below comparable roles elsewhere, based on independent benchmarked evidence." He added that many MPs were spending "relatively little time or money" on staff training, wellbeing and development. https://news.sky.com/story/mps-to-be-paid-82k-as-they-receive-3-1-pay-rise-11950205
 Share this content via...

No they don't, not anymore at least. Since 2011 MP's pay has been set by the The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent_Parliamentary_Standards_Authority
 Share this content via...

The hypocrites reject the increases from independent pay bodies when it comes to thousands of others for years, but are fine with taking increases themselves, when they are on far higher salaries and claim ridiculous expenses to boot!
