Was announced as a landslip at the north end of Sheffield station, track all repaired and trains running normally now, earlier than expected.

whilst the trains weren't able to run, Supertram was accepting valid train tickets between Sheffield, Meadowhall and Rotherham Central, where Northern services were commencing.

Below is a get lost message from Trans pennine Express for next Sunday as they can not be bothered to provide a bus replacement

LIMITED train service will run between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield but will be diverted via an alternative route and will not serve Stockport or Dore & Totley.
These trains are expected to be exceptionally busy as they will be the only train service between the 2 cities.
Customers are advised to travel on alternative days if possible.

Transpennine Express are running trains  Manchester-Sheffield so no need for replacement buses. Northern and East Midlands Railway aren't running west of Sheffield and are putting buses on, from Sheffield to Chinley and Stockport respectively. Use the journey planner at https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ to find the best options for the journey you wish to make.

The Sunday diversion via but not calling at Wakefield, is a  great chance to visit Marsden (£11.10rtn)and Stalybridge (£20.10)on a direct train which  it also is a fast non-stop service to Huddersfield (also £11.10) in 55 minutes.

TransPennine Express services are diverting between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield today.

As a result, trains will run with 3 coaches instead of 6 so trains are expected to be very busy. Please consider travelling on a different day.

You didn't say it was Sunday  08/03/20 - you implied it was today, the disruption is due to Network Rail work and therefore out of the hands of  the rail franchisees.

It would be less confusing if you edited your post to say Sunday March 8th and not "...today" which is a Tuesday.

To make it clear:

The normal Sunday service of three trains per hour to Manchester Piccadilly is suspended throughout March.

There are hourly direct trains to Manchester Piccadilly hourly via Huddersfield.

There is a small bus running  hourly (all stops except Edale) to Chinley for Northern  trains to Manchester Piccadilly (not Stockport).

Both of these replacement services are predicted to be very busy.

This also applies to  Sunday March 15, 22 and 29.
