nikki-red   308 #2 Posted February 29, 2020 (edited) I remember Porter Brook being the same a few years ago. I seem to remember reading it was due to iron ore coming from old mine workings in the area, dislodged by heavy rain? choogling   14 #9 Posted February 29, 2020 (edited) Probably comes from the little stream that runs through Whirlowdale park finding its way into the sheaf. MICK BADGER Â Â 21 #10 Posted February 29, 2020 coppy and pasted from cleanriverstrust. The natural colour of water that comes from the old abandoned mines across the world is a shade of ochre, the basic constituent being the most common mineral on earth; iron. ... The iron in the minewater is not poisonous in its self but will cause streams and rivers to become biologically dead very quickly.
