Xbox/Fortnite Questions

Hi, I’m new to all this so after some help please..

 

1. When playing on Fortnite through the Xbox one  my daughter can hear her friends but they can’t hear her. I’ve tested the mic, controller and she’s not muted it. Any other ideas? Not sure if it’s something within the settings of Fortnite that needs changing. Does she need to be in a party in the Xbox before going into Fortnite?

 

2. If her friends play on a different system such as PS4, would they be able to chat?

I'm not an Online Gamer personally, but my friend  (now deceased) I know he used to play online games and Chat to other players whilst playing these games.

 

So my guess would be that you have to both have be on same framework ( Like eg. Xbox 360, Xbox One etc, not one on PS4 other on Nintendo Switch or Xbox, Xbox 360 etc..)

Or it could be differing online service, incompatible? Just a thought....

I've been through this to the point of insanity with my kids!

 

1. Headphone jacks on controllers are notoriously flakey, You can get an adapter (something like this - https://amzn.to/2x1l8QH) or test with different controllers? Also, check parental settings of the account in the 'privacy and online safety' as that can mess with which players can hear which other players. Also, the problem may not be on  your end! 2. Yes, players on different platforms can chat to each other - but again you need to check your settings - https://beta.support.xbox.com/help/Hardware-Network/connect-network/multiplayer-cross-network-play

Xbox uses to forms of chat, Party & Game. 

 

Party chat only allows communication between those within the party group.

Game allows anyone in the game session to communicate. If you're in a Party chat group you can still hear the Game chat but not respond.

 

I would assume that as you're talking about cross-platform, all participants would have to be in Game chat.
