It wasn't getting cold enough to thoroughly freeze the food, particularly in the lower part of the freezer. First diagnosis - fan. The fan wasn't working properly so it wasn't distributing the cold air. Second diagnosis - water getting into the sensor. Not thought to be the main cause but worth changing as it could contribute. Third diagnosis - compressor. It was in fact the compressor. To replace the compressor would have cost as much as a new freezer. And I was advised it was a "risky" operation as the whole thing would need to be re-gassed and the chances of it being successful were 50/50. So I bought a new one. Only problem is it was one of a matching pair of freezer and fridge. So I had to buy a new fridge as well. Even though the old one works fine! I had 15 years trouble free from the freezer and the fridge is still going strong. I shopped around before taking the plunge on a new one, and most of the folks I spoke to said that Miele was the only brand that I'd get more than 3 or 5 years out of. So, at twice the price of other brands, I bought Miele again. Looking forward to another 15 years trouble free service! What brand of fridge do you have? mac09 10 #14 Posted March 8, 2020 Just an update for anyone who may be interested, I bought a Heating element and thermal cut out, and fitted it last weekend, it was quite a fiddley job securing it in place at the back of the evaporator, but I managed it and it has been great since, I am hoping it is now cured. Thanks to all who replied to me 👍
 Share this content via...
