Cold Water Tap Deposit.

Recommended Posts

Bits of black deposit regularly build up on the inside of the cold water tap in the bathroom. They eventually fall into the basin. We wonder what causes this black residue.

Is the tap fed straight off the mains or from a tank in the loft?

Do you get your water locally in the Sheffield Area? Are you Mains Connected?

Have you checked the Cistern in the Loft ? Does it have a Lid?

We get it too, never had this problem for over forty years then the water pressure was increased which resulted in our pipes banging when we turned the cold tap off and that’s  when we started to get the black slime.

Black particles in drinking water are often caused by manganese compounds.

OP. Are you in an area that has a lot of Manganese in the water?

This is something we suffer from as well, only from the cold tap in the bathroom however.  I have taken to once a week rubbing my finger around the tap grid to remove it

Someone says if you got those flexie hoses connected to your sink taps they brake down inside after a while and cause these black bits,we have those flexie hoses so makes me think if they need renewing.

We don't get black bits in the bath taps as they are copper pipes ,we do get some in the toilet bowl as this is flexie pipe also,in kitchen no black bits as these are copper pipes connections,

Maybe the inside of the flexie pipe is breaking down maybe time to change them befor they Burst.

Thanks. I guess I'll get my thumb and toothbrush out and give it a weekly scrub.
