I'm not sure why he's surprised about that. He was predicting it before the referendum.

He likes to moan about it, it keeps him relevant

What happened to his support for the Fishing industry?  Or did that evaporate at the same time as the Government sacked them off?

I don't think they're lapping up his rhetoric these days...

Brexit in one animated graph:

https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/8590876/

Is that German trade to the UK or UK trade to Germany? as it seems to be implying that its German Goods Exported.

According to the trade and investment factsheet from the Department Of International Trade exports to Germany at the end of Q4 2021 was £46.6 billion (€54.5 billion) and imports were £62.7 billion (€73.5 billion) so something is not quite right or not explained.

"Not doing what Brexit was all about will save UK consumers a billion quid"

Difficult to see that as anything other than an admission that his Brexit claims have turned out to be false...

I particularly liked the "Brexit allows us to not do all the things Brexit was about" line, talk about spinning! :D

...as a result...

UK ports want recompense for ‘white elephant’ post-Brexit borders:

“This now looks like wasted time, effort and money to develop what we fear will be highly bespoke white elephants,”

This may have been answered already, but why does a Minister need to be appointed to look for the benefits of Brexit?

Shouldn't they be apparent?

Because they get paid a supplementary allowance.

I believe Andrea Jenkins, who was a member of the ERG, now gets £20k extra because she is now a junior whip.

Andrea Jenkins looks like she needs the money, Jacob Rees Mogg doesn't ;)

Liz Truss is still after Johnson’s job.

And by the look of things, her precipitating the UK into a trade war with the EU is not too big a cost for that prize, either.

In the meantime…beware suspiciously cheap pork 🤨

Just watched the ERG's Steve Baker completely failing to understand his own policies on Politics Live...

....stating goods destined to be only consumed in NI shouldn't be subject to checks, while completely failing to understand he has no mechanism to guarantee (or even police) that!

There would be nothing stopping dishonest traders/consumers then moving those goods into Ireland (and vice versa)... so his aims will ultimately lead to the need for a border! :loopy:

You couldn't make it up... annoyingly, wasn't pulled up about it at all.
