Lest we forget (since July 2020), given the current times.

The HoC Intelligence Committee found that Johnson's government “actively avoided” looking into Russian involvment in the 2016 Brexit referendum.

RT and Sputnik spend on Brexit, estimated at £4m, exceeded the Leave campaigns combined.

Prepare for a general election next year, No 10 staff told as inflation bites:

Brexit reportedly the top issue for the next General Election campaign, above the cost of living crisis, the NHS, crime, and migration.

No chance especially as the Tories will still be at the helm!

Technically, you’ve yet to reach 1.0, what with the SPS checks still outstanding (and which the gvt will inevitably ask the EU to postpone a while longer, before July) 😉

"Brexit 2.0" refers to the platform the Tories are reportedly planning to stand on at the next general election.

Would that be where they promise to deliver on the promises they made over Brexit?

Risky strategy if you ask me, is one thing to promise the moon on a stick, is another thing to make any of it a reality.

According to the Guardian piece it's about "trying to shift the focus away from the economy and back towards identity and value conflicts" because identity politics is the only thing the Conservative party is united on...

...taxes up, the economy and public services in the dumps, red wall seats unhappy!

So they're trying to whip up the Leave vote again. (apparently)

"This strategy requires an electorate willing to dance once again to the beat of a Brexit drum. That is by no means certain. Attention to Brexit is now lower than at any time since before the referendum vote, and attention to immigration at its lowest for over two decades. With economic chaos at home, conflict abroad and record levels of anxiety about climate change, the issue agenda today is radically different to the terrain on which the previous elections were fought and won.

The Tories may want to shift the conversation back to more favourable terrain. The risk is that they cannot do so, and are left with nothing to say."

A case of not having much else to campaign on. :?

Why is the election being called early though?

They've got till Jan 2025 and hold a stonking majority in Parliament, just crack on because it's unlikely you'll be in a position this good for a while.

The next general election will be a Thursday in May 2024.   It's will only be called about 6 months early because the winter months aren't a good time normally to hold general elections.

A winter month GE worked OK for Mr Johnson 🤔

Obligatory Brexit goodness:

Much as I’m looking forward to visit Sheffield shortly, can’t say I’m looking forward to brave the M20 on Friday 😬

Unique circumstances.  It worked okay for Boris because the decent respectable members of the electorate were sick and tired by the way the disgraceful rogue parliament had blocked the implementation of the 2016 EU referendum result and wanted Brexit to get finally done.

Still in megaphone-operably-connected-to-bum mode, I see? Pity.

Brexit is still not “done”.

Parliament cannot be ‘rogue’ or ‘disgraceful’, either. Only the honourable members that comprise it, individually and collectively, with each such honourable member elected as they are by those decent respectable members of the electorate.
