Let me make this perfectly clear - any personal attacks will get you a suspension. The moderating team is not going to continually issue warnings. If you cannot remain civil and post within forum rules then do not bother to contribute.

In addition to remoaner we are also not going to allow the use of libdums or liebore - if you cannot behave like adults and post without recourse to these childish insults then please refrain from posting. If you have a problem with this then you all know where the helpdesk is.

Good news - some HGV delivery drivers jobs are being filled.

Bad news - by bin lorry drivers.

Supply and demand, it makes the world tick. I've just had a 2k pay rise at work without even asking for it. If I'd asked for that two years ago they probably would have laughed me out the office.

It might be 'supply and demand' but local authority workers are being offered a 1.75% pay rise, strike action has been mentioned.

I wonder how that will work out, a 2k pay rise each?

Where are the qualified HGV drivers coming from to fill the gaps in bin lorry drivers?

Wrong thread.  You should start a lorry driver thread.

It's most certainly connected with the law of supply and demand.  Lowly paid bus drivers are swapping their jobs to become HGV drivers because the pay at the moment is much higher.

Are you demanding water companies stop pumping sewage into our rivers and sea?

I drive a VW Crafter with a D1, some of our drivers are ex bus/HGV drivers, so I am hoping we get an uplift too.

It's a temporary situation.  The article does mention covid and the pandemic which has caused big problems around the World.

If you had a HGV licence there would be more opportunities for you to earn more money.

Although HGV drivers are older, I prefer a good life/work ballance and want less work as I get closer to retirement.

The really good pay is away from home, I have a family life to maintain.
