Some of the media report the figure of 127

When the economy has recovered in 2023/24 and wages are higher, perhaps all of this will be forgotton? The Tories really have a powerfull media, if they can keep/get them on their side, it may work.

In the meantime, the IMF are forcasting the UK to be the bottom of the G7 and 3% being in growth.

I doubt that it will be forgotten as early as 2023/24, because Brexit is making much of the Covid-induced supply shock in the UK to be a permanent feature.

Think of it this way: so the 127, 27, 20 or even the full contingent of 5000 HGV drivers come over next week, work and then get kicked out on Xmas Eve or New Years Eve…so what happens to GB logistics on 1st January?

And what about the balance of 40.000, 60.000 or 95.000 HGV drivers allegedly missing in GB in the meantime, and from then on?

Brexit doom prophesies were no more substantial than the Millennium Bug.

The millennium bug was very real. A lot of people spent the previous two years checking and updating computer systems and made sure it had no impact. Unlike with brexit, we were well prepared for it.

Indeed, I earnt a fortune in 1999 on overtime :D

Still, in some peoples minds, if they can't see it, it didn't happen.

And in the case of Brexit, even when they can see it, it didn't happen 😂

Exactly correct.

Exactly not correct. The consequences of the Millenium bug were mitigated by the effort which went into preventing the predicted issues.

Having to reset IT systems was real - the prophesies of doom were not.

As with Brexit.

Aye, in much the same way as a surgeon operating to save someone's life, then suggesting the danger was imagined because they didn't die :? :loopy:

Nah, Brexit's all about being sick of experts, so that operation never happened... hence the somewhat obvious (and predicted) results.

You don't know what problems were corrected. Several people on the forum worked in checking and updating software as part of the preparations for Y2K and so do know.

As with Brexit.

The prophesies of what would happen if we exited without a deal obviously didn't occur because we didn't exit without a deal.

The prophesies of what would happen if we put a border between NI and RoI haven't happened because we haven't put a border between NI and RoI. It's worth noting that we still haven't sorted out the NI border issue and just yesterday Ian Paisley claims Boris Johnson promised to 'tear up' NI Protocol, so it looks like we never really had a solution to the border issue in the first place - just something we viewed as temporary so that Johnson could claim he had "got brexit done".

The prophesies of what would happen if we distance ourselves from the EU single market have so far only partly come about, not least because we haven't implementing all the border checks we were going to.

Actually, I beg to differ.  My exports to the EU have increased significantly over the last 18 months - I look forward to a bountiful Christmas dinner, maybe even a pudding.

Not read anywhere that troll exports have increased..............................

How the heck is Brussels coping without male bovine 'exports' from our Brexiteers? I think we should be told.

They are probably importing it from NI via RoI. No customs issues and the DUP are very prolific producers.
