Tom Martin has never been anti immigration. I believe he would like to see an Australian type of immigration policy for the UK.

I never claimed Martin didn't want immigration. The point is Martin wants immigration to help his industry because of a shortage of staff caused by Brexit. Presumably because otherwise he'll have to pay people more to get them to work for him rather than other companies.

Tim Martin wants an immigration points system similar to Australia because it gives priority to those seeking jobs in sectors where there is a shortage  of workers needed to do the jobs.

To address a shortage of workers caused by Brexit. Obviously Tim Martin thinks Boris's government have got the UK immigration strategy wrong.

Quote

When we were in the EU any EU citizen was allowed to come to the UK looking for any work as well as those who weren't really looking for work.   We ended up with too many undesirable Eastern Europeans here who are more interested in criminal activity rather than doing a honest day's work thanks to Tony Blair's Labour government not using the UK veto when it should have been used.

At least you're finally accepting that that was because of the UK, not the EU. If you try a bit harder you might even accept that the following Tory led government failed to take the opportunity to change the rules.

I've never not accepted that both past Tory and Labour governments are to blame

Do you see a trend for the future there? There was talk about more immigration, not less.

Record numbers of boat people coming here, so we have more undesireables but fewer desireable workers.

Honda Swindon closes:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-57987601

"The Swindon factory was world-class but because we chose to pull out of Europe, which was the most important market to Honda, they chose to stick with America and Japan.

"Brexit was the straw that broke the camel's back."

or maybe nobody wants a Honda car anymore?

Not being funny, but even on the streets of Page Hall, people would sooner drive a ten-year old Germanese binwagen than a two-year old Honda.

Brexit can't be blamed for the closure of the Honda factory at Swindon.  The Toyota factory near Derby isn't closing and if anything the Nissan factory at Sunderland is expanding which are also not a consequence of Brexit.

Honda deny it has anything to do with Brexit. The quote in the article about Brexit being the straw is from a Professor at the University of Bath, not Honda.

Thank you for that information.  It didn't make sense that Brexit was to blame especially when Honda made the decision to close the plant in early 2019 when there was no certainty that Brexit was going to happen.

Honda also closed it's european other factory in Turkey.... which is in the European Customs Union.

A poor argument. Honda knew Brexit was coming.
