"The wealthy" being, of course, that very 'class' who never needed FoM to live abroad and seize opportunities at any time, and won't notice its loss.

To the exact contrary of (e.g.) working class kids who for 30-odd years could lift themselves up by their bootstrapping smarts, enrolling onto EU-funded uni courses abroad through Erasmus. No more such opportunities for them.

So, no more FoM. Zero consequence for the 'wealthy' indeed. Yet plenty for the working class indeed. Hey-ho, 'tis the will of the people (so the wealthy said).

What percentage of UK students have taken advantage of the Erasmus scheme?

99.5 per cent of UK students have not participated in Erasmus.

Countries that are not EU member states participate in Erasmus.

Erasmus is for the privileged elite.

I believe it is a little less than half of the annual intake at Sheffield University.

Since its creation in 1987, number of UK students who went through Erasmus:

at least 200,000 by 2013 (fullfact.org)

36,700 in 2014 (britishcouncil.org info, Jan 2017)

40,000 in 2015-2016 (britishcouncil.org info, Jan 2017)

16,500 in 2017 (BBC Reality Check article, Oct 2020)

But all you're really interested to argue here, is that it is right that opportunities provided by the likes of ERASMUS should be pulled from UK students. Right?

(Ad hominem edited out I see.)

According to the europa website the programme is only due to last until 2020.

"Set to last until 2020, Erasmus+ doesn't just have opportunities for students..."

Is it going to be replaced?

Whether it is replaced or not, is of no further concern to the British.

It'll  be of concern to the non-British if it's  not replaced.

This falls very much into the "so what?" category of first-world non-problems.  Universities in the EU27 nations still accept UK students and UK universities still accept students from EU27 nations.

That it would.

So imagine the relief when, last July, it was allocated €21.2bn in the next EU budgetary cycle to end 2027.

Sure, EU27 universities will still accept wealthy UK students. To get back to the original point.

Meaning it doesn't affect you directly so you dismiss it as insignificant.

Less than 300,000 UK students in thirty years?

The total number of Higher Education students in the UK was 2,343,095 in 2017/18 alone.

So a tiny, insignificant number of UK Erasmus students studied in the EU.

In fact, more UK students go to study in the US and Australia than to all of the 27 EU countries combined.

This is very interesting.

L00b has highlighted just how unpopular studying in an EU member state actually is with UK students.

Why don't UK students want to study in the EU?
